This listing is for my Mercedes W126 which I have owned since January this year. I bought it from a local guy and probably saved it from being banger raced to death!
It’s far from mint and has done a fair few miles, interestingly the last owner who drove the car looks to have used it as his main car and put on some mega commuting miles over the last few years. When I bought it there was no MOT and it was a bit sorry for itself. So I gave it a bit of a service (plugs and leads with some fresh oil and filter) and stuck it in for an MOT…..which it passed first time! I have since used it on and off as a weekend car. It drives as it should, gearbox selects and kicks down nicely and the car idles at the correct speed. Always starts on the button hot or cold.
So what are the negatives? Well it’s an old car with a lot of miles so all the usual stuff which those things entail but I’ll try and list the most obvious things…
- -The driver’s door has been replaced. When I bought it the door had received a an impact, no glass broken though and was scrap. I replaced it but have had to space the hinges for it to align. It’s not pretty but does the job. There was also some wind noise at motorway speed so I have packed around the shut. It closes as it should and locks/unlocks perfectly.
- -The bodywork is “patinated”….. The car has had paint and a few shades at that! There are also a few areas in primer which I haven’t painted in top coat yet and both bumpers have a fair bit off flaking.
- -Front suspension is clonky, could do with some new shocks.
- -There is little history…. Book pack is present however and stamped up to about 70k.
So, what is to like then?
- -It’s a big old Merc with a long MOT. Perfect old bus to knock about in, will do over 20mpg too.
- -It’s not rotten… Front wings seem fairly solid, certainly not like the net curtains you seen on most of these. Also the rear parcel shelf is sound and hasn’t rotted out…..this means the cabin is dry and not damp/musty. The chrome is all in pretty good shape, not rotted out like most.
- -It’s a reliable old thing. I have done a few big drives and it’s never let me down. These cars, and especially the bullet proof straight sixes, just go on and on and on.
- -There is a working radio/CD and the electric windows/roof and central locking ALL WORK!
- -The car has a full V5 in my name.
I’m only selling the car as I have another Mercedes 126 (a 500SEC) which needs some attention. I also have two other weekend toys so this beastie has drawn the short straw…
Car is located in Worcester, 5 minutes from J6 of the M5. I work at home most of the time so daytime viewing is fine.
