My Mrs has offered me a challenge that I need to complete,but can I do it??
October is officially stoptober,the idea is to not drink at all for the whole of October, the challenge? Well I want another mgf as I miss mine,but I'm a bit lacking in funds
So my Mrs has said that she will pay for another mgf, if I complete the no alcohol challenge
But......I will admit I have passion for a good few jars most weekends when I'm down at our caravan and enjoy one most evenings,this is gonna be hard but I need another car!
The challenge is on from October 1st......

Piece of pee . Have a soft drink and think about how great it will be to have a new car and how nice a beer will taste at the end of it .
Its not like you will die or anything ?
Perhaps take up the crack pipe instead , although ive heard thats quite ' moorish ' [ No not ancient arabic]

I rarely drink now but if there was a chance of a free car for staying off it for a month, I'd stay off it for a month. Good luck fella.

Sounds like a good deal to me ! Like Astranaut i hardly ever drink now,i doubt i've had three drinks since last christmas. If someone was offering to buy me a motor though i'd stop anything except breathing for a month  Stick the money you would spend on beer in a jar for the month and use that for the little jobs on the new MG. Good luck boss ! |

Thanks for the replies , it's gonna be a hard one but I gotta see it thru ....somehow, I'm not a heavy drinker but I do like a few beers after a stressful week at work!!

Blunt and to the point EL Woody ,I don't drink excessively, but that doesn't mean no alcohol problem I suppose
If I can do the month perhaps it could lead to giving up altogether a healthier life and more money in my wallet

I do dry January each year (or have done for the last two years). I don't drink a pile, but did tend to have a wee dram of something alcoholic most nights. I shocked myself the first time I went dry for a month as I genuinely struggled for the first couple of weeks. After surprising myself with this, I've made a pact with myself that each January will be alcohol-free. I also have cut down on regular small drinks. My father used to drink a glass of red each night, but now has a glass one night, with the next two alcohol-free in order to alllow his body to 'go clean' as such. Alcohol is great, but by god, is it addictive. Good luck with it! (And as the thread isn't even slightly retro or ride, let's get some photo content in...)  |

I think it does you good to have a break , as it can creep up . Take tea and coffee . Sometimes i don't drink either for a month or so without noticing . At the moment i am drinking 3 pints , yes pints of coffee in the morning , having crept up from a cup over a few weeks . I know its not the same exactly but its a habit forming substance , that you can start to take for granted .
I think you will be fine , enjoy watching your mates get tipsy and enjoy feeling a bit fresher in the morning . Perhaps think of stuff to do on Friday/Saturday night that does not involve the sofa and beer or the pub ? Perhaps bowling with the kids etc ? If you are going out offer to drive everyone maybe ?
I was quite ill for many years without realising it , meaning bacially none of my bodies systems worked properly . I was doing rotating day/night shifts welding in a god awful place as well , really hard work . I had insomnia and my body was absorbing much nutrients from food , as well as not sending energy to the right place . I could not sleep and for about 6 months i really do not think i got much more than 20 hrs sleep a week .
I started to drink , just a little to hopefully bring sleep to me but that ended up being about 3 litres of rum a week . Thats how things can escalate without noticing . One day i just stopped , don't know why or how but i always keep things in check now and only drink occasionally when out .
It really doesnt bother me much , anymore than a couple of beers , which ever type and i will have a fuzzy head anyway . I don't know about anyone else but i feel its really a day wasted if you feel rough .

Can you save what you would spend on brew towards the car as well ? Perhaps to buy the first nice shiny bits or better parts off another car ? Extra bit of motorvation .

Just a small step, a whole weekend without any lager, I would estimate the first in around four years, it's early Monday morning and I feel great, gotta keep going

Still no alcohol,today the wife bought me an mgf I've seen locally,she will be taking the keys if I don't complete the challenge....not really missed a beer at all tbh
