Model: Audi Coupe 2.6 E (B4)
Year: 1994
Mileage: 218198
MOT: 16th August 2017
Location: Dundee
Price: £1800 with the Borbet alloys and new Rainsport tyres
or £1200 with the 17" alloys as shown
This car is in amazing condition. Most importantly it completely belies the fact that its currently sitting at 217K miles The condition both internally, externally and how the car drives are a testament to how well these cars were build back in the day and how meticulously this particular example has been cared for.
This is a fine example with the smooth 2.6 V6 148bhp engine, power steering, leather interior, electric windows, central locking, factory alarm, ABS, and not forgetting the famous ‘procon-ten’ safety restraint system. The ride quality is tight and sporting having Bilstein dampers fitted all round. S2 headlights and clear front side repeaters are installed giving very impressive illumination for a car of this age.
The car comes with a huge binder of history and has clearly been cherished.
In the time I’ve owned the car I devoted some time to addressing the few minor issues it had. Jobs I have taken on include;
• Restoring all interior lighting, both the cabin illumination and instrument cluster
• Replacing the heated rear window switch with the correct one for this marque (it previously had an earlier switch fitted)
• Tidying up the radio wiring, and fitting a fully functioning radio.
• Replacing the alloy wheels and tyres . The alloys were in poor condition and the tyres were a budget brand – not something I condone. The alloys which were on the car were out of place and did nothing for the cars looks so I have treated the car to freshly powder coated Borbet A alloys, with new center caps and new Uniroyal Rainsport 3 tyres.
• Returning full functionality to the rear light clusters. When I bought the car there were intermittent warning messages being flagged up for both brake light and tail light problems. The wiring was in poor condition with evidence of previous attempts of repair. I made good all connections and reinstated new cable where required, the lights now all work as expected. For the first time since I’d owned the car the computer displays the ‘OK’ message!
The car is MoT till the 16 August 2017. The following parts have been fitted.
• Front antiroll bar drop link
• Front strut top mount
• Track rod end
• Fuel filter
The car recently passed its MoT with only three advisories, which are;
• Oil leak – found to be a seal from the hydraulic pump. New cap and seal sourced direct from Audi. Hydraulic system was fully drained and refilled with the correct grade of hydraulic fluid (note this car does not used normal power steering fluid)
• Play found in front Suspension strut (repaired by replacement of strut top mount as mentioned above)
• Corrosion present on rear brake flexi hoses
I have been and continue to use the car for daily duties and it has never once let me down.
Please note. There is a small dent in the nearside sill towards the rear. The black paint has cracked and exposed the galvanized steel beneath.
The passenger side electric window only operates from the controls on the driver’s door. I have investigated this and found the passenger switch to be fine, and also the relay to appear to be in good condition. I suspect there to be a wiring issue between the passenger door switch and the relay.
There are age related marks on the body and paint.
This car is being sold to allow me to concentrate on a long term restoration project that’s being neglected for some time. I am a VAG enthusiast and I have a 944 restoration project on the side lines, alas the Coupe has to go. You’ll be pushed to find another example anywhere near this condition of this car. This vehicle is becoming rare also, according to www.howmanyleft.co.uk/vehicle/audi_coupe#!manufacture there are only 30 of these V6 1994 cars currently taxed in the UK. I doubt few are in as a presentable and useable condition as this car. Whoever buys this car is getting a bargain.
