Awesome cars! I too am a fan of the straight six, but I may be biased as the only brand new car my father ever had was a Rover 2600S manual.
I have done a bit of reading up on the straight six, it employed a lot of Triumph dolomite sprint technology regarding the valve gear and was originally meant to have four valves per cylinder in much the same way. Hence the single cam lobe for each cylinder operating both inlet and exhaust valves in the same manner as the sprint engine.
As has been said, it would have taken over from the flagship V8 model which considering the advance in technology is hardly surprising.

I remember how stoked I was when my Dad borrowed one of these from the car pool at work in the early 80s and we went on a quick trip to Paris for some shady business/pleasure. He was less stoked and bought an Audi 100 soon after.
This is a real time warp back to the 80s. The interior looks perfect.
How about some side-skirts to continue the lower profile that the front air dam creates?

Cheers guys, and yeah thats a vid my mate did the other week.
Sideskirts sound like a good idea and it would make sense to match the front. but from experience and seeing sd1s with any sort of bodykit its not quite for me. I just don't think they suit them.

Hi, could you tell me how you have lowered it (Rimmer Bros springs, cut springs...) ? And the specs of your wheels (brand, ET, width...)?
I'm about to buy a SD1, and I want to go lower + cool wheels.

Any updates on this one? I love SD1's and this one looks just like my uncle's in the '80s.
So many memories, it was like a spaceship compared to my dad's mk2 Escort.

Sorry for the lack of posts Current play is nothing has changed. Currently going through the PITA that is buying a first houze so the car has been on the back burner (house has a garage so that should change) Its been sat pretty much all over winter had it out a few times its developed a misfire at high revs when its hot. And I'm in the process of trying to get an adapter ring made up to fot these jag brakes to it. Picked them up last year having had new seals and pistons fitted sand blasted them in work this week gave them a coat of zinc primer for now to stop them rusting again. And yeah its pikie as hell on chopped springs atm. Plan was to make some coilovers for it. As said tho been too busy/skint. ![](http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j195/sheepello/ECACD2B5-B938-4814-88EE-3C5AFF39B7E8_zpsyiavbwgn.png) ![](http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j195/sheepello/9891EB0E-59A6-4EAA-8632-8D489B731FBD_zpsdajsavlz.jpg) ![](http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j195/sheepello/53001D56-A887-4F9B-BD68-7397D9E5D9BC_zpsu1c6amp9.jpg)

That car looks the dogs t*ts. Those wheels have no right to work on that car but they do! The difference between the before and after pics highlights your eye for detail. You said initially that you would, eventually, look to put in a V8, is that still the plan? Ive read that BL detuned the six because it was as good as the V8, are they tuneable to give good BHP? You have shown that the 2600 should be just as desirable as the V8. Great work there!

Once this house is sorted ill look at maybe dropping a 1/2jz or 1uz in i think. I'm sick of the rover 6 pot. It sounds well but its too unreliable for my liking.

Like it, I wasn't sure about the wheelz in the early shots, but when the Vitesse Spoilers went on, it really looked the part, sort of changed the proportions. Those wheels are sort of early Jag X-Type sport style at first glance.

They will do for now. Not many wheels about for SD1s being 5x127.
