Sorry to hear about a setback, but will remain bookmarked for it's (slightly slower) evolution.

Blimey, two whole years have passed since I last updated this. Sorry The poor little Fiesta is still sitting in my garage in the hope that one day I’ll get around to doing something with it! I actually had the day off work today for a job interview which got cancelled while I was driving there! That left me with most of the day free. I had things to do but one thing on my list was to drop some bits off at my garage to store in there. Now thinking back it’s been about 9-10 months since I last went round to the garage so I was quite looking forward to seeing the Fiesta When I got there I emptied the stuff out of my car and then figured as I was there I’d peel some more stickers off the Fiesta I must admit that I’m amazed at the tyres still being inflated! As I was there I thought I’d take a couple of interior pictures as well. The steering wheel has definitely seen better days but after Googling it it would seem it’s a pretty sought after wheel. I’ve got another wheel for the car anyway so this one will be sold at some point! I wonder if this is the original mileage... That was about it really. Nothing particularly exciting but I thought it might interest someone Maybe one day I’ll find the time to actually drag the poor thing out of the garage and do something with it!

Now the reality is that short of me winning the lottery the going racing dream has been and gone I am however still intent on getting the poor old XR2 back up and running and making it a road legal track car. That I can afford to do. Just! With that in mind I’ve always got my eye out for bits and bobs that the car might need or things that I eventually want to change. One of those things is the engine. Now the CVH that’s fitted is apparently a bit fruity but realistically it’s never going to set the world alight unless I want to spend daft money on it. An easier option is to chuck a 2.0 zetec engine in there and liven that up a bit instead. Annoyingly I’ve found a 2.0 zetec that needs rebuilding but it’s 150 miles away in Wolverhampton and I have no way of collecting it I’ve been on Shiply and just waiting for some sensible prices to filter through but I might have to let this particular engine slip through my fingers and keep an eye out for something closer to home. Anyway, that was it. Just an update on where my head is going with this one.

Just found this video that the previous owner of the car took years ago.

I managed to fit a 2.0 8v, gearbox, subframe, steering rack, exhaust etc... into the back of a mk4 golf with the interior and luggage lol. a Zetec would fit in the boot of most cars lol.
But i'm sure one that doesn't need a rebuild could be had for not much dough. Unless the one you have spotted is going for a song

But i'm sure one that doesn't need a rebuild could be had for not much dough. Unless the one you have spotted is going for a song It sold for £60! The best price I could get for collection was around £100 which still made it pretty cheap. These engines seem to be going for £150-400 from what I’ve seen! Anyway I let this one go because there wasn’t time to sort the collection and delivery out. I’ve fitted amazing amounts of things in the backs of my cars, including a Polo GTi engine and gearbox into the back of my Fiesta Zetec S company car about ten years ago haha! It’s more the distance these days. My Daughter doesn’t mind a little road trip every so often but it takes a lot of persuasion.

The pics bring back memories of my Dad’s Paris Blue XR2, bought new in ‘84 or ‘85 for the princely sum of £6,000!

Feel your pain with "kids" hampering any spare car time plans! lol Sometimes she’s quite happy to come and “help” me for a bit but she loses interest pretty quickly. Plus I’m generally ripping engines out and stuff like that so I don’t want her too close to the car when that’s going on.

I am well away from cars when in Dad mode; 7 year old could maybe not injure himself or damage anything while I work. 18 month old not so much lol

I’ve got a picture in my mind of how I want the XR2 to eventually look and it’s very similar to this. Now I’ve found the arches and they’re not expensive which is great, however I’ve got no idea what width or offset wheels I’m going to need to fill the arches, so if anyone can offer any suggestions I’d be grateful. I’ve sold the steering wheel and I’ve got someone coming to collect the drivers bucket seat this weekend. All the money from selling bits I don’t need/want will go into the pot for buying new bits

Unfortunately this is a final update I started to pull the body kit off this a little while ago. Sadly the car is absolutely rotten under the kit. The more things I removed the more rot I was finding, so I made the decision to break the car to try and keep some more XR2’s alive. So far it’s helped keep at least three others on the road which I’m happy about Thankfully the car had some nice bits on it so I’m going to at least make my money back from breaking it. Thanks to everyone that was following this and I’m sorry there wasn’t a proper conclusion to the project.

That's s real shame, looked like being good project Lost my XR2 with the same issue, found a bit of rust on the sills from MOT, took the kit off/interior out and it was scary how little of the body was still attached to the floor pan.
