You know dayinsure? You know like you used to be able to insure yourself on any car within two minutes with a few clicks of the mouse for about a tenner? That was great. Nice and easy. Then they made it a bit more pricey and complicated and started asking for driving license numbers and curse word. Mildly inconvenient but still fairly easy. Well, now it seems they won't insure you on a pre-1993 car. I found this out after trying to get insured on a Mk2 Golf GTi for the day. Rubbish. So I did it through the AA instead. Slightly more expensive at £18 but at least they touch retro's! Cruddy whingey thread (soz), but I thought I'd mention it as there are a few of us that have used Dayinsure in the past.

Go to norwich union day insurance. I don't seem to have any beef with them.

Here ya go mate... www.theaa.com/insurance/short-term-car-insurance.htmlDon't know if it's a flat rate or not, but I can't see it being more expensive than Sal's GTi. Tigran - have you used them recently? From what I could gather, dayinsure.com are part of Norwich Union... maybe it's different if you go through NU though. I used to use dayinsure with no problems, it was only Thursday that this post-93 curse word came to light.

On another note, I used to have normal insurance with eCar insurance - and they weren't too bad - cheap at least. Anyhoo they do short term insurance as well, not had time to investigate but have a gander www.ecarinsurance.co.uk/

You might want to try this link that has just appeared on autoshite: www.tempcover.com/Not sure if they do old cars for sure, but there doesn't seem to be anything stating they don't!

Tempcover are OK - used them for the 1992 Saab 9000. I had the same issue with Norwich Union as Dayinsure in that anything pre-'93 isn't covered.

How typical, that dayinsure thing was class, now it seems they have made it into a load of toss and upped the price. I used it a few times to drive stuff across france (conveniently ignoring the 'you must start and finish your journey within the united kingdom' clause in their small print).

Go to get some pre 1993 insurance on there - it will flash up with the red 'eff off' message.

I can see how some fools might have abused the systems and also how sume suits atempted to extract more profit line. Great thread though, this info is exactly what a lot of us need right now...

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

i used to use day insure all the time, andit changed over night with no warning, so one day i found myself stuck in a car park outside a friends house unable to get car insurance to legally drive home. had to phone around took ages and cost loads. but better than risking no insurance.

Does this mean Norwich Union won't insure pre-1993 cars on their eBay drive-away policy?
