I used to sell these new back in the early 80's and loved driving them. Always thought they should have had the quad lights (US got them as standard IIRC) as standard much more jaaaaaag! Good luck with the sale at a very sensible price.

Yeah, I personally prefer the quad lights, but I know that XJS fans are into their ovals. Apparently fishbowls are popular on XJ40s rather than twin lights, too - funny, when so many cars at the time were candidates for Morette conversions.
I think it's very well priced (well, as I'm selling it, I would!). If anyone wants to make offers don't be shy, but I'd prefer them to be made after the car has been seen. And I'm open to PXs - bottom line is the car I want is £1500, so I'll consider things that are worth up to the balance and "a bit of cash" as long as they're not projects or VW/Audi group stuff (exception made for '70s/'80s VW, mind).

PX a 1.8 MX5 mk1 manual plus cash your way?
It's subtly lowered on coilovers/tasteful fat steel wheels and has a great history file, full MOT, isn't a rotter etc etc.
Drop me a pm and we can talk if you're interested?

Hmm. PM sent, but MX5 doesn't solve anything for me - might be fun to take the load off the SLK though.

Getting interest, but it's still here!
Unlike the Beetle! So have a 'cars departing bump'.

No more interest? I can't think the price is the issue, V12s just scary?

It's a smashing car and a great price, I just don't think many have the balls for it

I registered just to write that I absolutely love this car. I would buy it in a heart beat, and sort of have the money. But I have just started a new job, and I don't want to blow bank and then end up unemployed... if it is still for sale in a couple of months, I will be all over this I'll drop you a PM when I decide what I am doing with my current car (sort of dead, needs welding for the MOT, not sure if I can be bothered with it), you might be interested in it? 1997 XJ6 manual in red.

I think it's safe to say, although of no use to you whatsoever, that if I was still there, this would have gone on June 28th!

I would consider an XJ6/XK8 in PX, but not a project and definitely not one needing welding, sadly Life keeps on throwing curse word at me. So right now, I'm likely to be receptive to a pretty wide range of PX options; my SLK's aircon compressor just had the clutch start to fall off so I'm without a daily until I sort that. (And yes, I would consider a second SLK as daily to preserve my yellow one. Or BMW Z3, or... as long as I have enough cash out of the deal to get my 500SEC, I'm happy).

This looks a terrific car.
I'm not in the market as I already have one, but if there are lurkers out there thinking about it, I'd encourage anyone. They aren't even that expesnive to run, and a 12 is something that everyone should try at least once.

I can vouch for this car because I've driven it and had a look round it. It's a bargain, it needs buying.
Anyone interested is welcome to pm me if they want my appraisal of it.

Hi I have a rare, genuine E34 BMW 535i Sport manual with LSD for sale, full MoT until next year, lots of new parts and enough history to fill two A4 folders! The car is a total time warp and was part of a deal in a previous sale (brother liked it more than I did) but BMW simply don't hold my interest. It has a murmur at idle but clears as soon as the revs rise. The car passed emissions and starts everytime on the button, never overheats etc so it can't be anything major, I just can't get interested in it! MOT guy was shocked how good a condition it was. I am an Italian/British car fan, I already have a Jag so know what they are like. Would you be interested? PM me if you prefer. retrorides.proboards.com/thread/190655/genuine-535i-sport-immac-price

I actually took it out for a run yesterday - rather than running about in the hearse, nice drive from Leicester to Derby, then Derby to Alfreton and back, let one of my friends have a go in it. Yes, you too could look THIS happy I'll consider an E34 "generally" but don't want a PX of that sort of value.

There must be a benchmark for the most amount of interest in a car without any bites - no promotion effort, no sharing, and it's had over 5,400 views on eBay and 160 watchers. Yet from eBay not one person has viewed it (though the usual lowball chancer offers without viewing have come through and been rejected). I don't think I've owned such an undesired desirable car before One of my friends popped over and we went for lunch in it, he's driven a certain red XJS 4.0 and was very complimentary about mine. Just need to find the right person, I guess.

Rich a video might sell it! Check my other posts and have a look at the Alfa I just sold, it went within about 5 hours of being advertised and I'm convinced doing a video massively helps... I know it's a pain!

Nice! I'll give it a go. You're still the only person to have actually looked at it with a view to buying.
Its replacement joins the fleet next week whether it's sold or not. Whether I put up with being broke for a while, or try another push to sell it, I'm not sure. Need to weigh up what XJS prices are up to (up being the operative word) and whether I just put it in the back of the garage for a bit longer.
Anyone interested should get a move on to see it though as the new car will be taking the XJS insurance - mid August it'll be SORN and laid up insurance again.
Edit: eBay advert has run out. Final stats: 5,776 views, 164 watchers, four offers (£2,500, £2,500,£2,500, £2,650) made, none by anyone who had viewed the car or spoken to me about it prior to making an offer, three by people who made to attempt to communicate whatsoever, one by someone who at least made a vague attempt to persuade me that the car they hadn't seen or driven was worth well below my asking price essentially by telling me we were too far apart on the money, but fundamentally couldn't give me a good reason as to why I should take less other than they couldn't afford to pay any more for it. On the whole I'm dismissing those offers as the usual chancers and lowball dealers; if a bunch of people had seen it, offered that and been told to walk away I'd be doubting the car, but not in this case.
Not sure if throwing money at some service items (to show it's been done) will make any difference, as it drives well and smoothly as it is and no-one's used that as a reason for it to be worth less, but I'm going to get it a new cap & arm (not cheap), maybe consider doing the plugs (argh scary). The people that have driven or been in it and know XJSs have all said it's a good one!

If you can afford to I'd get it serviced and detailed (about £500) and do a fresh ad with some beautiful pictures... No need to dwell on the negatives (for example previous cooling issue) and I think you'd get about £4-4.5k for it...!
I know an amazing detailer who would probably come to you if you wanted it doing.
The chancers are frustrating aren't they!

Yeah, the cooling is definitely a non-issue now - traffic jam on A52 in Derby for 40 minutes, not a wobble, in 33° temperatures. Because it's something I fixed it takes time for me to be sure - reckon 700+ miles is enough time to trust it though. I like being up front about things.
You're not the first to suggest those figures are where it should be, but I'm happy with what I'm asking, ideally wanted a quick sale to get the C140 sorted out quickly!
