Any paw prints in the concrete? You too! Twas wondering if the dog managed to make a pawprint or two! Normally it's cats. I can guarantee that whenever I do any concreting in my garden, one of my pair will walk through it, even if it's not in direct line of where they are going, I swear the little fox pictures go out of their way to walk through it!!!

Any paw prints in the concrete? You too! Twas wondering if the dog managed to make a pawprint or two! :-) The hound is a good pup, he knew not to go on it thankfully. As for the tree, it was planted some time in the 80s so my otherhalf states (Next door used to be owned by her Grandparents). It used to be a walkway between the 2 properties, when once ownership was handed to each house owner that was planed after the wall was bricked up for some reason. It's a pain I'll admit, but my side shall be chopped right back.

THREAD BUMP ALERT!!! WOW fast approaching 2 years since we updated. So let's play catch-up here shall we, first off it's still not up , or even close to completion. Basically COVID caused a massive halt to all of us, the weekend after lockdown was announced we had all the groundwork equipment booked to install the waste pipes etc and remove the last of the soil from the site, but as with everyone's 2020 plans these didnt work out. Even the builder was due the first week in June with a late June completion date! During lockdown the base ended up being used as a decking for the hot weeks we all stayed at home.....Missus loved it, but no way was this not getting done! I did end up spending 2 weeks of this rebuilding the side of an MX5, you know to get the taste of repairing my curse word in my garage. So with lockdown eased once again we rented a digger and dumper then set about clearing the site, what a difference this has made. Once this was done, on my Birthday (July) I may add the builder gave the green light to the start date, all that needed sorting was the green POS at the bottom of the garden.............. The Tree.....The F****** TREE!!! Neighbour wants to keep it as they like pigeons or something (they are only birds that go in it), but my side would have caused issues with the roof so I got my local tree surgeon to slice the thing! It looks stupid but at this point I really don't give AF, it gives me a few years of no issues before it starts growing on my side. I have literally just got off the phone to the building suppliers, internal blocks have been ordered, cement, tiles and the forward date for the roof trusses. This is where we are up to, the updates will now start coming in thick and fast as of Next week/September. Cheers.

You should find that, having given the neighbour's tree a good haircut, on you side, there is a distinct possibility that new growth will be limited. When this type of tree is cut back to the trunk, this is normally the case. Keep up the good work.

And if you're really lucky, it'll get all unbalanced and blow over (their way) in the next good wind!

Trees on boundaries are a PITA. I have had some success negotiating with neighbours in the past by simply offering to pay the full cost of removal. Mostly, I’ve found, it’s not a reluctance to have the tree gone that’s the root cause of the problem, it’s the reluctance to admit to not having £2-300 quid spare to pay their half of the removal cost.
Although, sometimes it’s just sheer bl00dymidedness. 🤣

It would be a lot easiier and cheaper to pay for it to be removed now while they have nice flat concrete base with good access to work from.

Told you the updates would come in thick and fast..... Materials arrived on Thursday and the builder started on Saturday....Talk about timing! Rush job to clear the site and put boards down for the Moffet. Internal blocks. At the moment the builders can only do weekends until the beginning of September, this turns out to be fine as the trusses wont be delivered until the 14th anyway. Cheers. Nathan

Another week or so has passed so lets have an update. Currently the builder can only commit to weekends until his other job is complete, this is fine by me as the workmanship is amazing. So the spec of the garage to remind is 6m x 12m, we have included a 100mm cavity and dense internal blockwork to keep it warm and also to limit the noise a little (see I am nice). So last week 17 packs of 100mm insulation was ordered, a security door for the side and I have just paid for the trusses....... So how are the builders getting on: In Chronological order. Back facing brickwork is now up to around 6ft. Then as of last weekend they spent on blocks and the doorway. Nice touch on the brickwork to break it up a little. Cheers.

A bit late now you’ve ordered them, but why trusses? You lose all that useful space in the loft. Surely better to use ridge and rafter, and then you can have an upstairs?

My current garage has a loft and it's just a dumping ground for rubbish, there will be a small mezzanine over the toilet/bench area at the back and full racking down one side so plenty of storage space. Also the reason for the trusses is to put a half height vehicle lift in.

Also the reason for the trusses is to put a half height vehicle lift in. Fair enough. I suppose it depends on the design of the truss. If you have a style that allows the height for a vehicle lift then you’re not losing the amount of space that cheap trusses take up. I looked at a house for sale a few years ago, the main attraction of which (for me, at least) was a garage with a footprint about the same size as yours. The disappointment was awful when I looked inside to find the roof space, which was vast, was almost entirely filled with criss-cross matchstick truss braces and the ceiling was at 7’. Such a massive garage with so much wasted space. Even if it only gets used as a dumping ground, at least you have your rubbish out of sight and in the dry.
