yes I hear what you say, ref errors, but 716 miles at Feb 2006, ( with a car fifteen years old ), then up to 173,978 in April 2008, then down to 75,170 in March 2009, then down further to 51,653 in March 2011. One could possibly assume that parts of the car have done say 200,000 miles....The question is ..What parts ?
The problem with this car is its mileage credibility, if it had to be sold at some time in the future, you would , unless a good explanation is provided, always have the same question mark over it.
I wonder what date that the car was completed in it's present form, and what was the mileage on the clock then, I'm sure that " bargain bucket " would be able to advise.
Of course the mileage may not be a critical factor, if it was built from new, or nearly new parts, it just makes things a bit more difficult...
Hope " bargain bucket " can enlighten us...

Here's a hypothesis re the mileage.
The car gets substantially rebuilt and someone resets the mileometer to zero. The MoT's between Feb 06 and the fail on 10th April 08 suggest very little mileage was done. The rear tyres were an advisory on each MoT. The retest on 17th April has an advisory that the mileage increased to 173,978 because the speedo had been changed. Perhaps it has been zero' badly and gave up the battle when it tried to click over from 999 miles to 1000? Who knows.
Sometime between April 08 and the MoT in March 09 it looks to have had another speedo fitted as the fail in March 09 has 75,170 recorded. The subsequent pass and the MoT in March 10 suggest the car covered around 900 miles in the year. Looks like another speedo change between March 10 and March 11 as the March 11 MoT shows 51,653 miles. The last recorded mileage is in October 2014 showing 52,147 miles - again, the car wasn't used much between MoT's and looks to have been off the road for at least a year in that time as there's a period during which it wasn't MoT'd.
Who knows what the true mileage is, but to be honest, I'm not sure it really matters. You either want a very quick Senator or you don't.

wow no wonder your are the eternal optimist, I wish there were more customers like you around. Just cos you say its a hypothesis, doesn't mean your assumptions are in any way correct. The only people who can answer the queries sensibly, are the people who are really in the know regarding the speedo's variances.
I consider that, until they advise what the position truly is , that the variable history makes it difficult for me to consider making an offer. You may not think the mileage matters, but to me it definitely does. Why would anyone think a 200k car is worth as much as a 50k car, even if on the face of it they appear to be the same.

Pretty much.... Also owning a Lotus Carlton Bitsa they are hard things to price Condition is way more important than mileage - the ABS club have known LC's that have hit 200,000 miles they will have had fairly extensive maintenance to do that but no major engine work. This Senator has always had a couple of elements that grated - the Grill doesn't fit in the bumper aperture and as a result the bumper is set too low under the lights - I've never been a fan of the excessive badging on the rear - The AR35 auto box mated to a LC engine scares the curse word out of me (a good 3.0 24V will test one and the only 4.0 24V auto very quickly had a manual conversion) but it's been like that for a fair while so whatever was done to uprate it was effective. But none of that matters because it's never been my car so my opinions don't count It would break for more than the purchase price - maybe not hugely more but more for sure. It's not the first time a Lotus Omega running gear has been transplanted into something that wasn't a Carlton |
