For sale is a Mercedes W126 S Class 300 SE Automatic
1989 'F' Registration
Metallic Silver with Blue Velour Interior
Long MOT until May 2017
Smooth drive, happily sits at motorway speeds eating up the miles.
Takes a few cranks to start up in the morning (had an oil change before I purchased it, but could definitely do with new plugs, points, leads, etc). Once started and up to temperature, runs well and will then start as it should. If left idling for longer periods, the temperature gauge starts to creep up, but comes down as soon as you start moving (weak viscous unit).
It failed the MOT initially, and needed 4 tyres (part worns), wipers, some welding and a few bulbs to get through.
Gearbox is superb and changes effortlessly - free from any clunks or thuds.
Very clean bodywork for the year, with a few minor blisters here and there (not your usual rot box you tend to get for this sort of money). Bumper chrome seems solid, but is lifting in some places.
The velour interior is in pretty much excellent condition, with no rips or tears. All feels solid. Everything seems to work as it should (I even noticed the headlamp wash wipers working when I was parked up).
Previous owner had the car since 2010, and sold it due to ill health.
It is more of a base spec W126, with it having the velour cloth and no electric seats. But you know what, there is something weirdly alluring and charming about having one in this spec and the shape still oozes class and has great presence. Looks like an expensive car even in this day and age.
Right, the story behind this one... My younger cousin has been looking at some old Mercs, and really fancied a W126 as his dad had a 500 SEL in the late 90s. He found this one, and we drove up to Liverpool to pick it up. I was in this, and it drove faultlessly 170 miles to my parents place in Northants. I did ask him if he had sorted his insurance and he assured me he had. It in fact turns out, he hadn't! He got some quotes yesterday, and the cheapest he could get was £3100 (he is only 20). When his parents found out, they hit the roof and he has been told that his has to sell it. Made me look a bit stupid as they probably think that I pushed him to buy this, but I had no idea he couldn't get insurance for a decent price.
So here it is... We got this Friday evening, and it's for sale exactly how we bought it. I have way to many other cars, so there is no way I can even contemplate keeping it (my wife would literally kill me).
It comes with 2 keys (one for the ignition, one for the door), V5 Logbook, MOT Certificate, MOT History Printout.
The car has been left with my parents and is located in Wellingborough, Northants, NN8 post code.
Price is £975, taking into account our travel and fuel costs. It's probably the cheapest road-worthy W126 in this condition. No stupid offers, and I haven't got patience for timewasters or tyre kickers.
With a little TLC this will easily be a £3k car, but perfectly useable as it is.
If you are interested, please call me on 07984 395400 and i'll be happy to arrange a viewing (will have to be after 6pm if on a weekday).

Wow! I can't believe that is under a grand, where are all the "retro car hobby's so expensive" folks.

That's cheap! If I hadn't just bought a 420SEL, I'd have a pop at that!

Thanks folks. It really is a cheap and useable W126. Give it some minor TLC, and you've got yourself a cool retro ride that will probably outlive all of us!

That's just what I'm after but literally have no time to collect for a month or so.
What's the location post code please?

That's one hell of a slice of Bavaria for beer money, in fact that would make a awesome way to get to the Oktoberfest!
Your descriptions are always bang on, good luck with the sale Sir.

I live in Bracknell, which isn't too far from Surrey. I'm just not sure when I will get a chance to bring it over, as working away at the moment.

I saved one of these from London recently, I can confirm they are epic. Good luck with the sale. Mine will be going up for sale in a few weeks but has half the mileage.

I don't know how this hasnt sold yet.... Nor do I... The market for these types of cars seems a bit stagnant at the moment. I honestly thought it would fly out the door at this price! It has generated a lot of interest, but nothing concrete.

Cash sale only I'm afraid, as I have too many other cars and this wasn't mine in the first place!
Reduced to £900. I'll be around later in the week if anyone wants to take a look.
Thanks.

Right folks, this really needs to go now as it's taking up very limited space in the car park.
Started her up today. It fired over quicker this time, and after leaving it to idle for around 10 minutes, took her on a long spin.
Drives lovely, very smooth and cruises at 70+ mph with ease. You really do appreciate the solid build quality of these and it still wafts along as good as any other luxo-barge.
£850 or very near offer, and you can drive it away. I will stress again that you will not find another one in this condition for this sort of money (I know this, as we looked at a fair few up to the £1500 mark, and none of them were as clean and original as this).
