A truly delightful Ford Escort Mk1 1300L with just 29,855 miles from new.
EQUIPMENT
Safety glass all round, anti-burst locks, sealed beam headlights with combined sidelights, separate direction indicators, rear number plate illumination lamp, water temperature gauge, oil pressure and generator warning lights, two speed windscreen wipers, hazard warning flashers, foot operated windscreen washer/wiper, ignition/steering column lock, safety padded steering wheel, push button door locks, dipping rear view mirror with breakaway stem, ashtray in fascia, aluminium scuff plates, face level ventilation system, demister nozzles, two speed heater/demister fan, rear ashtrays, two padded sunvisors, padded front parcel shelf, door operated courtesy light, map pocket. Factory Options: Static seat belts, heated rear window, vinyl roof covering, passenger door mirror, locking fuel filler cap.
EXTERIOR
The exterior of this stunning Mk1 Escort is simply superb in every respect having been professionally detailed. Finished in Ford Royal Blue (colour code G5), the paintwork has a deep gloss shine which is outstanding and an absolute joy to polish. The panel fit is pleasingly good with uniforms gaps for the era. All trim sections are excellent and the 1300L wing badges remain intact. The factory optional black vinyl roof is exceptional with no lifting or damage and the glass is the correct Ford Triplex factory fitment. Original steel number plates remain fitted to the vehicle. An example that proudly displays its low owner and low mileage credentials, and one which has enjoyed a very cossetted existence. A real rare survivor.
INTERIOR
The interior of this Escort 1300L is beautifully preserved and commensurate with a low mileage cherished example. The original seat coverings in blue vinyl, (code EA) are clean and show no damage. Only faint markings to the top edge of the rear bench backrest are visible. The headlining is tight and unmarked, and the black deep looped pile carpets are in remarkable order. Two small holes and a hairline crack can be seen in the rear parcel shelf. The thin steering wheel with padded centre is in amazing order, as are all controls and rockers switches. The padded dash top and wood effect trim are both exceptional. This car really is a beautiful, unspoilt place to be and just as Ford intended.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The immaculate engine bay with factory plates, stickers and wing top stampings still present is home to the original 1298cc OHV engine which fires up immediately and provides a delightful engine note. With 57bhp, 0-60mph in 15.9 seconds and a top speed of 90mph current day usage is possible. The diaphragm spring type clutch feels positive and smooth with a precise four speed gearbox. An absolute joy to operate and a true reflection of the low mileage this car has covered.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The standard pressed steel wheels with original chrome centre caps remain on the car and are shod with quality branded Firestone F-560 155/R12 tyres with masses of tread. The wheels and hub caps are in outstanding condition. The boot area has factory markings visible and houses the spare wheel alongside the near impossible to source original boot mat and blue jack. The all-round drum brakes fall short of modern standards but bring the car up to a straight assured halt.
HISTORY FILE
Registered new on the 1st August 1975 this Mk1 Escort would have been one of the final cars off the production line and has been father and son owned since it was less than two years old! Purchased by Mr Hubert Powell in July 1977, it was kept by him until ownership passed to his son David in September 1988 who has owned it ever since. The supplying Ford Main Dealer was Tricentrol Cars (Luton) Ltd and even the original dealer tax disc holder is in the history file! Having covered a mere 29,855 miles from new, this cared for and very much loved Escort remains unspoilt and a real credit to its former keepers.
The history file consists of a substantial collection of previous MOT certificates and service invoices to help track the mileage. The most recent full service was carried out with less than 500 miles covered since. Quite literally a time capsule from the seventies and now available to a lucky individual to enjoy and show.
HPI Clear.
