Really enjoyed it. The waffley bit with James Mcavoy was a bit tedious and unnecessary. I would rather they ask a celebrity to bring there favourite car and do a piece on it, then do a lap in the reasonably fast car or their car. Yeah I thought the "how to waste a celebrity" bit was a bit weird too. Thankfully not as bad as the Grand Tour.

It was ok. Pretty watchable. Some parts dragged, but generally ok and certainly an improvement on the last series. For me, it's a long way behind The Grand Tour and The Grand Tour disappointed me at times. The opening sequence of the first episode of The Grand Tour was better than the entire series and a bit of the New Top Gear we've had so far, but at times it failed to live up to it. The American and Celebrity Brain Crash were awful and some of the features were far too long and irrelevant. But in the beginning it took the Old New Top Gear a series and a bit to find its feet and get rid of some of the bits that didn't work. The thing that wins for The Grand Tour is that Clarkson, Hammond and May have genuine, natural, unforced chemistry. Yes, of course it's scripted. Yes of course they go over the top with each of their individual traits at times, but you'll never get a trio of presenters that work together like they do, so embrace it. Also, the cinematography etc is incredible. On Top Gear, you can just tell it's three random blokes thrown together. It's very unnatural and wooden. An American fronting the programme just doesn't work for me and it feels over-produced for the other two. I think that the new Top Gear would get far better press and people would watch it with a far more open mind if it wasn't called Top Gear. They could get rid of Matt Le Blanc, slash the budget and it would suit the presenting style of the other two far better. It may be more specialised for car enthusiasts and lose some of the mainstream viewers, but it'd cost a hell of a lot less to produce and don't think it'd suffer. They can't compete with Clarkson, Hammond and May and will never fill their shoes. Top Gear needs to find its own niche again, like they did previously. The celebrity guest section benefited from a refresh though I think. Glad they dropped the stupid rallycross track. I think the new choice of car is good too. It's good to see how the celebrities will do in something a bit quicker and more driver-focused, but is still a pretty reasonably-priced, volume production car. I'm guessing the main reason they roped in MLB in the first place was to make the series more appealing to potential US viewers. I do find that Chris Harris mildly annoying & MLB seems a bit forced & false, (he's an actor I suppose). Yeah, I hope they haven't given us the best of the series first, I'm really looking forward to seeing the FXXK go around their track. What's happened to Sabine, has she had the bullet as well?

I just watched it and... wow - what an improvement over Evans/Danny Baker's efforts last year... So much less 'trying too hard' on show.
I grinned a lot pretty much throughout - and didn't cringe at all - which is complete polarity shift over the motherlode of Evan's Reboot series last year (and pretty much all of The Grand Tour)
To me it felt more fresh, more informal, and that the 3 fellas were having a genuine good time. I think they maybe went to the pub and found out what makes each other tick. It felt like they were off the leash and allowed to actually own their enthusiasm.
Old TG had given up even trying to hide how scripted it had become and the ensuing pantomimes had become really tiring to watch. (which is why The Grand Tour can never really succeed banging that same drum)
The new series' production team, seem to be a lot more confident as shown with their stealthier, drier writing, and trusting enough to allow the setup of a good premise to do the bulk of the work, with the script almost creating itself as things happen on the shoot.
I think the team is prepared to acknowledge that the audience isn't wholly comprised of general viewers, so it felt nice to be thrown the odd bone here and there so as to feel like they actually care about the petrolheads as well as the more general viewer.
Even the celebrity segment (always turgid and overlong in times past) felt tighter and more welcome - clever I think to intersperse it with the other newsy segments, resulting in something that felt like all involved (inc McEvoy) were enjoying the chat, the ribbing and matey banter.
I'll definitely be watching again next week. Less here is definitely more.
Plan more, write less, have fewer presenters, and trust that they can deliver with humour and interpersonal chemistry, rather than hitting everything with the stupid-hammer and it seems you have a winner.

Felt really wooden, stilted and scripted to me, especially Rory and Chris. I guess the actor in Matt le Blanc pulls it off better. Too many false laughs. Even the audience look awkward, and it's almost like they are reacting to 'LAUGH NOW' boards being held up off camera. That said, it was still quite watchable in bits last night, and definately better than Series 1.

I don't understand why people don't like LeBlanc. Personally I cant stand overly shouty and excitable people, LeBlanc is the exact sort of person I want to watch so maybe I'm biased. He does seem to be given these bigs lines though that he doesnt pull off well with his calm tone.
I would honestly like to know why anyone who prefers grand tour, prefers it? Most reviews just seem to like the three guys and don't take into account the show, which to me is tired, forced and just not funny. The three amigos don't even seem to like each other anymore but just have an engineered on screen relationship.

I just watched it from about 5 minutes in, didnt know it was on. It wasnt long before i started to enjoy it enough to carry on watching it, and i watched all of it. All of Top Gear. That hasnt happened for years. I really think the new presenters have turned a corner now and made it their own show. I think its really benifited from not having Evans on there, every time he put his face in the camera it became the chris evans show, but it takes a team to run a show like that, and thats whats happening.
In contrast ive tried to watch The Grand Tour and i cant, it just reminds me too much of why I stopped watching top gear.

As I posted earlier I did enjoy it. Can I ask the people who didn't what their car programmes of choice are?

I watched it on bbc iplayer, I wasnt expecting much after the first series, I didnt rate TGT that much really.
A new series and straight in with a challenge of sorts with high miler cars, brill. all of a sudden it was at the end of the programme and I thought the time passed really quick, during some TGT programmes I found myself looking how much was left to run
loads better without chris evans, and sabine and eddie jordan, perhaps they might make an appearance, but arent needed if the now threesome can keep this up.
glad that the track is now back to original
overall, good, will def watch next weeks.

Don't mind Matt LeBlanc, don't really care for the other two at all. They may be good journalists (guessing that is their background?), but that doesn't make them good TV presenters to me. I'll probably watch it as it is still series linked, but I won't be upset if I can't find the time...

Never realised they'd made a new series of it, but watched this episode and I thoroughly enjoyed it ! Not anywhere near as good as The Grand Tour, but much better than it was with Chris Evans, so will keep watching it if I remember to. I do want one of those old Ladas that was racing around that track in Kazakhstan.
