I was suitably amused to see a sticker saying "Built, not bought!" in 4" high letters on the back window of a totally stock Rover 214. ( After some further thought I find the concept of a shop bought sticker which says "Built not Bought!" to be either ironic or pathetic. Not sure which. Meh. Maybe the owner was an ex-Longbridge worker who got the car as a bonus or something. otherwise Meh x2 I think some form of cat is required in this post. possibly this one

NIce idea in principle though isn't it, to think of all those scribbled 'Future cars' that i used to draw, building my own cars, typically to sell, was always top of the tree, where motor related careers are involved. I'd love to do just one now (if not just cos theres some fugly kit cars out there ), apart from loads to learn, the time and money and effort alone would scare me, before i get to the BIG SVA wall!

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

ROFLMAO! ;D Too funny, man! And good point, well made about the sticker. Why not just come clean and get the one that read, "Bought, not built." Meh, indeed. "I'm"

Just buy second hand kit and rebody it, no worries about SVA or mechanics at all then, its not hard to knock up some molds and get fiberglassing, i used to build canoes and its pretty easy (but messy)

I harbour ambitions to construct my own car from the ground up some day too... "I'm" (Pea roast I know but a goodun) A guy in Cornwall/Plymouth had the same idea....... ........other folk on the forum have more detail on this beast, but as far as I remember its got a 1.8 cvh and various herald bits in the running gear. But it was hand built, mental!!!! Worthy of the "Built not bought" IMO!

"I'm" Yup, I'm another one that can join that group! I'd love to make something of my own based on an imp. Something like the Imperator GTS (well, from the front at least, if only it looked as good from the rear IMO) I would love to be able to reply to the question "Where dya buy it from mate" with: "BUY?! I didn't buy it, one of a kind home build mate "

If you were going to bother though, wouldnt you rather make it ALL? Why use anything from another car, except maybe the engine/box if your fab skills aint up to engines (who's are?!)
