You should get a full exhaust for about 80 quid, though it'll most likely only need the rear box - Which should be 40 odd. The car, as-is, is worth what someone will pay for it..... I.e. scrap value - upto 100 quid (at the most) Tested, it might make somewhere between 200-400, not even slightly desirable to a mass market Mmmm, Dodge Omni

I think if you did some clever marketing you'd get more than that. Full ticket, low miles and immaculate will always find a home. If you put it in "practical classics" classifieds at ÂŁ995 it'd probably find a home if it's as good as you say it is.

IIRC they handled quite well, only ever drove a couple but always seemed to have a weird driving position with the seat being quite close to the floor....but maybe that was a combination of French seats and 18 stone.
Horrible engines though, always sounded knackered even when new....a sort of clattering, asthmatic wheezing noise. Not nice. And the gearchange was like stirring custard with a knitting needle.
Dodge Omni's are gorgeous though. 2.2 turbo weren't they???

i agree with the engine noise...... it looks pretty good but it's under a cover and i didnt remove all of the cover.... i think he is looking at selling it but figurin' out whether it's worth spending 200 quid on it...
i'm tempted but i would bung Ford alloys on it and lower it and i think its too good for that..oh, and its 5 door...prefer 3 dr Sunnybeamies

These have become very, very rare. I stand to be corrected but these were prettty much rebodied Simcas. Its true that the engines do sound like a sack of nails loose in a tumble dryer but they are actually pretty strong, they pull well and don't have that many vices. I had a Simca 1100 van back in the 80s which succumbed to horrific rot, the engine though was bang on and fully loaded with tools could still pull 90+. This one deserves saving.

(Which ARE Ford PCD)

... the only injury I sustained was a bumped head when I let the seatbelt of without realizing the car was upside down and that's not really the car's fault.

After some googling, these things must have massive amounts of potential surely?!

Massive potential, yes. Massive value, nope We had one a few years ago which had been in our family from new, it only had 16K on the clock! Times got hard and we couldn't afford to run a car, so it just got left for a few years. It was still rust free, and like new really, but we couldn't afford to test it, and nobody was interested in buying a car that most people just didn't car about, so it just got scrapped. Flat floors, great handling (if heavy on the steering) and a brilliant ride, made these great cars. But as said, it's faults really upset most people at a time when the Golf ruled the roost. But yeah, I'd have another, infarct I know of 2 local to me ;D They ARE Ford/Pug PCD. And a 1.9 GTi engine does go in, infact IIRC, if you use a 309 as a donor, the drive shafts fit As I'm sure it has been talked about before on here, rare doesn't mean it's desirable or worth lots of cash, but I'd go up to 500 for a really good'un with PAS

this one is a 5 speed so might have PAS as well.... it doesn't need savin as in any work doing to it bar exhaust...... the guy who owns it , who runs his own car workshop , is in two minds as to sell it as is or let it go once he has got it tip top....
so just out of interest what modern(ish) alloy wheels fit these then....interestin' its not Ford fitment like other talbots... if Peugeot does that mean Vauxhall as well??
see if i can get a pic tomorrow...

Might be a good idea to get in touch with the talbot / simca owners club, they would probably be able to advise what they go for and where to get parts from. www.simcatalbotclub.orgWent to my local motorfactors yesterday and he had in stock or could order most parts I could need for the Samba.

Vauxahll PCD is 100mm
Ford, Pug, Talbot is 108mm
They are pretty much worthless in money terms but are a fine car to do for the novelty or the love of it. Not soemthing you'll turn a quick buck on.
The Omni GLH was the Omni with the 2.2 Turbo. Its a Carol Shelby reworked version. GLH stands for "goes like hell" apparently. I believe the Omni was also available as a 3 door?
Oh, and the big difference is Horizon = FWD, Sunbeam = RWD.

The yankee version have a totally different body structure at the front end, they are on McPherson struts while the european ones have twisty sticks.

These have become very, very rare. According to Practical Classic, last month there are only 4 left registered on the UK's roads. It was in their endangered cars feature. I took a pic on my camera phone cause I am a traveller who could not afford the mag (and because my phone is a hand down the camera is like 1 (not mega) pixel, the pic is curse word!) I noticed it cause my mate had one as his first car, his family had it since new. It failed the MOT on terminal and I mean terminal rust. It was beige! no suprise there, it did service serveral Reading festivals thou PIC TO FOLLOW!

I recall much rot. much rattling.
A mate of my mums' - they had a Viva HC and they sold it to get a "nearly new" Horizon in like 1986 and I think they sold it about a year later and bought another Viva. Total money pit.
But has to be saved
