it was quite a good day there was about 60 road going granadas and over 200 booked in to race with some rare cars raced to which was a shame a mk1 coupe limo only a handful made a mk2 Westminster estate mk1 2 door saloons mk2 2 doors, I did have a look around the pits and most of them looked like they where past it and a lot of work to race them but there where a few that looked way to good to race, after talking to one chap at least half where imported From Holland or Belgium, I took a few photos I'll upload later

Great to see the non-race Granadas at the meeting. Thanks for sharing the pictures.

The "frogeye" scorpio's are popular with banger racers but the mk3's are too weak so not really used.
It does amaze me how easy racers find these cars to race though. I honestly can't remember the last time I spotted a mk3 anywhere let alone on the road yet 200 turn up in one day to race.

this is quite cool, I like the idea of a banger replica, bit different!

I was told by a ex racer that most of them where from Europe and converted to right hand drive, he also said you could pick up rough mk1/mk2s from Holland and Belgium for a few hundred euros, Also I think they must stock pile them for when there needed so some may of been in storage for years,

It probably wouldn't have been the first meeting either for quite a few of those cars.

Now we just wait to see how many start to disappear and are mentioned in the stolen section? Probably the same at classic car shows as well?

The race was last week so the racers already had the cars,my mate has a yard full of granadas they keep them for this type of race cos they don't stand a chance against the mondeos etc. Wish I'd gone to this I've seen the videos and it looked like a good meeting maybe a bit brutal but still a good meet

this is quite cool, I like the idea of a banger replica, bit different! I often daydream about building a road-legal hot rod, but this is ace. For full marks I hope it has a V6, the back boxes cut off and floored everywhere in 2nd/3rd. I particularly like the lurid pink clashing interior. Would be lots of fun to roll up to a classic car show in it. Just needs an Acrow prop and scaffolding, period-correct H frame.

Theres also the all Granada meeting at Coventry in june. I sit on the fence with this. Where else are you going to get that many road going granadas in one place as seen at Ringwood? Classics will always get used in banger racing, i don't have a problem with that, its more entertaining than modern dross, however, there has been afew one-make only meetings latley which I personaly thing is a bit off. You cant blame the drivers for having a great day, but i think the promoters should think a bit more about the potential losses as a result of cars being difficult to obtain.
