I've been keeping my eyes peeled, (without success to date), for a nice 1300GT for my Dad to add to his small collection. He's got a thing for red cars so a red GT would be his ideal. 1300GT's are pretty thin on the ground these days and when they come up they're often rust-buckets needing full restoration but are still on for obscene money. In the UK you could realistically expect to have to part with £7-10K for a sound to decent GT. This came up on the 'Car & Classic' website yesterday; Austin 1300 GT LHDIt's in the Netherlands and about half what you'd expect to pay in the UK, (sounds as though there's a leak on the hydrolastic). It would have ticked all the boxes apart from the steering wheel being in the wrong place. Perhaps there's someone out there who drives on the wrong side of the road who's after one?

I've been trying to persuade my Dad to bid but he's being boring. These come up very rarely in this type of condition. It's market value is probably £8K+ & the serious bidding will probably kick off in the last half hour.

I would have been very p*ssed off if we'd bought the car blind based on an inaccurate description & traveled all the way up to Southport to collect it.

But the Ebay ad said it was "repaired by a classic car specialist and drives like new". I can doubt the accuracy of the word specialist, but it being built during 70's at strike ridden BLMC, it could still drive like new...............

No way was this repaired by a classic car specailist... i didnt drive it, only started it.. engine sounded okay albeit its not a GT engine.. exhaust had a blow and was idleing way to fast but there easy fixes. The car needed alot of love.. to get the inner wing right youd have to cut the wing of again and start from scratch and the car ideally needs to go on a jig to pull the floor and bulkhead back into shape. I offered him £3000 which i felt was strong money esp as all the items that make it a GT was missing.. wonder if it sold.. he hasnt been left feedback either way..

We'd have been well & truly fcuked off if we'd bid on this 'excellent condition' GT with 'classic expert' repairs only to find that mess!
What a shame, this repair work should have been reasonably straightforward to do properly.

I have no problem in believing the repair was carried out by a classic car specialist, I have seen far worse repairs by well known classic car specialists.

I have no problem in believing the repair was carried out by a classic car specialist, I have seen far worse repairs by well known classic car specialists. In the late 80's / early 90's I had a one of the last Triumph Stags which I invested a lot of money in getting it as good as it could be, full works on the engine by Hart Racing Services, body renovations & respray, etc. The Stag was my everyday car, usually alongside a big Jag or big Rover. I was too busy with work at the time to do much to it myself and took advice from the The Stag Owners Club on a South Wales based Stag specialist. For every passable job this clown did on my car he totally mucked up another. The cherry on the cake was when I picked up the car from yet another inept job I was driving back on the M4 when the (ultra-light powered) steering locked up as I was trying to change lanes, I eventually managed to wrench the steering free. I pulled off the motorway and checked under the bonnet, there was a large wire brush wedged under the steering column obstructing it from turning at one of the unions. Needless to say I didn't rush back!
