Am wondering if i own the highest mileage vehicle on Retro Rides ? When i acquired my LTI TX 1 Ex London Taxi three weeks ago the mileage read 525525 Yes the milometer etc works as i have added about 300 miles so far to that. Starts first turn of the key / no smoke on start up or running / no loss of oil nor water or signs of leaks Could be replacement engine Saving grace is the Nissan non turbo diesel 2.7 is gear driven internally / no cam belt or chain as a fellow RR kindly informed me along with a cut away diagram Have run couple of bottles of quality injector cleaner through it as it had been standing a while A suggestion was a smidgen of two stroke oil added to the diesel Maybe out there is an even higher mileage vehicle ?

My Taxi is currently at 955.000km / 593.000 miles. Used daily, +500-1000km each week (average weekly milage is about 700).

I remember seeing a Rolls-Royce 20/25 at a car show with 3 million miles & multiple engine replacements / rebuilds under its belt. That was a long time ago, could be 4 million by now.

All sounds like Trigger and his broom but provided maintenance is done the mileage is not the problem

This is why I've always loved the VW diesel engine. The highest verified mileage on an original engine - diesel Jetta with 562,000 miles. Highest mileage JettaExcellent publicity for VW, they should have stepped up to the mark & given his car a full restoration.

Talking to a working London cabbie with a TX2 later model to mine and he was on 380000 and said mine was average for 16 years service in and around London. I have no smoke on start up or on the road / water temp stays good and no oil leaks except miniscule amount from a diff housing bolt. Probably in the new age vehicles are not engineered to last as long but its a testament to past owners maintenance and perseverance i am able to enjoy a vehicle thats certainly been a few miles. It is an honour to own it.

It feels like cars have gone from not lasting anywhere near 100,000 miles, then surpassing it and are now on the way back down! Haha
My MR2 is almost ready to join the Toyota high mileage club which starts at 150K, trouble is, the engine in it is supposed to be scrap before then according to the Internet!

You're dead right there, I think nowadays they are so obsessed with performance figures etc, that they are in a much higher state of tune & therefore don't last as long. That new 3 potter Fiesta is like 998cc & makes some ridiculous hp for its size, won't last ten minutes

Our company car btw. has 1.300.000km. A W123 estate with the 2.3l gasoline engine! Not even a diesel. On it's second engine, though (which has done 800.000km though). And - believe it or not - the automatiuc gearbox is still the first. Never been apart in all it's 1.300.000km. That's about 808.000 miles! My Taxi has it's 4th gearbox... And the difference is: my car was mostly used in Berlin city. The W123 spent most of it's time on the autobahn, cruising in 4th gear. And both cars haven been well locked after, since they were used for earning money. My taxi as a Taxi, the w123 as a buiseness car. The thing with taxis is; most get driven into the ground if they'r used by a company. a lot of them are being sold after 2-3 years with rather low-ish milage. Since they've not lost too much of theyr value. driven 24/7 by various drivers who don't care what they'r driving... It's not theyr own car. My Taxi was used by a self-employed driver. He had to pay the bills for repairs himself. So he took good care about the car, had it maintained and looked after regularily. I guess most taxis or other ultra-high-milage cars that exist for decades are of the second kind. Another factor: I've worked for a Taxi company (driving white vans way to fast to deliver unimportant stuff to people I don't even know as fast as possible ). Most of the cars regularily used are beyond 500.000 in 4-5 years!! So whilst my car appears to have high milage - for a Taxi it's a surprisingly LOW milage, actually. If used in a big company for the same period of time (about 20 years), day & night - you do the math...
