Thanks for the advice novocaine, when I've got it all up and running I'll keep an eye on it. Although I've done the same sort of thing to the Real Easy... And so far that seems fine too, perhaps I'll keep an eye on that as well.

Stunt pegs might be useful for transporting a little monster on the back.

D'you know, I thought that myself, especially if I combine them with a sturdy rack.

While I've got you're attention chaps I wonder if you could help me? I'm trying to locate a pair of forks to replace these, because as you can see they're well past their best. But I'm having trouble finding any. What I was wondering if does this type of fork have a specific name? They're quite thick where they meet the frame, and despite me having some steel forks that have a long enough steerer tube it doesn't seem wide enough to mate with the frame and stop dust entering the bearing. Oh, and the steerer tube is threaded rather than threadless, but could a threadless one be used? Any ideas?

In theory, you should just be able to replace the forks with another set of the same size. I guess it's possible that the headset race on your spare fork is different to the headset race on these ones? Installing the headset race is pretty simple with a length of tube, but getting them off is a PITA. The only way I've managed it is with a drift and hammer. If you wanted to convert to threadless you would need the fork, a headset and a stem. It wouldn't be worth buying that stuff, but you probably have all the right bits lying around.

I need help, and not just because my bike collection is out growing my garden! I'm on the lookout for some handlebars like this... If anyone has some in their stash that they're willing to sell to me that would be great, failing that they must have a name, so if anyone knows what this type of handlebar is called I'd love to know because it would help me to find them on fleabay etc, rather than browsing through 23,000 listings! I remember that in the late eighties and early niineties they were fitted to a lot of mountain bikes at the cheaper end of the scale.
