From what you have said in the past, its good you have a local on ya side, nice bloke to know then, neighbours on your side makes working outside more relaxing, I have just been tied up in favours too many times, I feel a little wiser now. Nowt wrong with letting Pro's do it either, buying tools - not cheap, so getting them to do it can be cheaper (if its a one off, or ya just want it done), and what would take you a few days off work and mega stress is the garages afternoon job. I enjoy trying, but only when I have somewhere near enough of the right tools and some reasonable safe working space.

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

the guys better off without tools. the sooner you have tools the sooner you start doing stuff, the sooner that happens, the sooner something goes wrong and you end up with stress and people asking for favours.
prime example. if i had no tools, i wouldnt be wrapped up in servicing my dads ford focus for free.. if i had no tools i wouldnt have worked on my celica supra and then hurt myself yesterday which then caused me to flip up and try smash it to death with my car-creeper. which in turn only ended up in me hurting both my thumbs.
conclusion.tools=bad

Woah Nick I think you got the stress my dad had! and he was a mechanic! lol Good tools are liberating defo. I want more, but no mre cheap poop. A good Kit kat and wd40 break works wonders, or even a longer break of days and weeks, the solution will come to ya or summat.

i know people like this - he will have tools but thinks he can get someone to do it for nothing - and he wont have to get his hands dirty - in this situation i usually say yes i will do it for you - bring it back in a weeks time - then they mention money, we agree on a price, then i say bring it back next week - just to p1ss them off
on a slight tangent: another type of car owner - the scrounger:
i recently got a second hand buffer machine - so the pr1ck over the road from me waxxed up his car and then came knocking on the door - can i borrow your buffer? - i said i didnt have one - and the look on his face showed me he KNEW i did have a buffer - and must have seen me bringing it in the house from out of the car boot - his car now looks terrible as he is too lazy to rub off the wax properly.

I love tools! I want MORE tools! You can never have enough tools. And should you think you do, thats clearly a sign that you don't, and you should purchase some more. Quick. Or a limb will fall off. Its the law. And even if it isnt it should be. Tools. Cars. Girls. Tools. Beer. All you require for a long happy life. ;D

A good Kit kat and wd40 break works wonders, or even a longer break of days and weeks, the solution will come to ya or summat. i get the stresses bad with cars, crud falling in my eye cutting my back/head with sharp parts of the car punching pieces of metal, when the bolt ive been heaving on snaps. getting covered in oil. i do actually enjoy cars and i couldnt live without projects, but sometimes i do wonder if buying tools when i was younger was the best move. to be fair i do my fair bit of tool scrounging, but i always allow friends to scrounge back, in fact its more like a toolclub. as we are all rubbish and have no money.

Yes, I was raised with my dad solo next door in the garage swearing and tool shot putting, i knew not to go for a visit when he was like that, and now i know why he was like that! I try take a chill pill when its all going to sh1t. Tool club, works with the right people. I have some very reliable helpful car friends, I owe them, they can borrow my crappy tools or time anytime.

When I first started working on Racecars at Weekends and holidays from school there was a miserable old B**ger called John, very clever bloke but had very little time for anyone looking to learn...... One thursday I had a job to do and asked him the best way to do it, he told me and then said "you need one of these" handing me a tool from his box...... I went off and did the job, cleaned the tool and replaced it back in his box The next Tuesday I had the same jobe to do and went to see john.... "Can I borrow that tool again John" ? "No" - carries on working without looking up "Oh.... (Bit deflated) Whys that ? you let me borrow it on thursday, whats changed" "On thursday (Slowly turns round) before you started, you didnt know you needed that tool, after doing the job you did.... You have had all weekend to go out and buy one and you didn`t - thats not my problem but it is yours" (turns around and carries on working) Harsh lesson to learn at the time, but now if I discover I need a tool I buy it...... He was a misery but I have still never forgotten the lesson and am thankful that I was taught it ;D

I don't have that many, when I usually do work on the car i nick the tools from work and give them back all dirty Well i say i do the work, my boss does as i don't have a clue. No one has ever showed me before.

TBH I was on the loo in the middle of a ton of DIY Way too much infomation... Reminds of a story a mate of told me years ago... he's handy with cars so a neighbour sent his lad round to ask if he could give him a hand, my mate gets round there to find said neighbour trying to change a wheel cylinder on his Sierra... with his entire tool kit spread out on top of the wheelie bin... and a Escort manual...

... the only injury I sustained was a bumped head when I let the seatbelt of without realizing the car was upside down and that's not really the car's fault.
