Well its not as bad as feared, seems to be contained to the rear of the inner sill and is imminently doable. He's been round pulling underseal off in suspect areas and just found surface rust so will be getting cleaned up and resealed. Quite happy about that. I'm not in a rush for it so he's doing it as and when. Already done a couple of brake pipes.
Cleaned back to see the extent, hopefully chopped out today to be welded up again tomoro. It is 28 years old I suppose.
MOT passed, new hard lines all around, new rear wheel cylinders, welding, bulbs and washers sorted, and a new vacuum control module (I say new couldn't find new so second hand) have sorted the high idle, rich running and occasional popping and farting. Brake are back to being brilliant, something must have been amiss for a while, slowly getting worse as it wasn't something I noticed, but great pedal and stops on its nose now. Passed no advisories at around 6pm last night, Fred stayed late to get it done so he's earnt himself a drink on top of the bill.
On the weekend I spotted a set of wheels on Facebook, Momo Corse 16" thought they would be period correct for this. They were hanging but with good Falkens all around, got them for 100, and picked them up last night. Refurb has started today. It's not a great job by any means but don't want to spend a fortune to find out I don't like them.
Thanks guys. Condition wise they're terrible up close, literally just wanted to see them and the colour on the car so they'll get pulled off again soon hopefully.
Got my 2 year old to help me wash my 2 and the wife's yesterday, also trimmed me a new boot carpet. Scrappy didn't have any and I'm not paying 30/40 plus postage for a piece of black carpet, so I utilised what I had... my sons spare road mat
Gets me a clean carpet and the boy can sit and play hotwheels if I go to a meet and he gets bored, win win
Not done anything with the Astra bar drive it and wash it, but have been tooling about in this bad boy...
Was headed for scrap at my mates garage, she just fancied something newer. So I gave him the 50 quid she wanted for it, fixed the exhaust with a new 16 quid centre section, fixed the wobbly gear change with a washer, and I've been using it more than my Mondeo. It's a genuine hoot, feels so nippy and excited, it's only a 1.1 but so easy to work on, pretty clean for its age, sub 100k miles and MOT till July I think. Don't know what the long term plan is with it, but its costing me next to nothing to keep so atm it's great
Had a great day out today with a friend in his TT and my brother vauxhall_astra in his Capri at Criccieth Cars and Coffee, great run down, great cars and my little lad had a great time on his pedal car as well. Top day today.
So I saw some wheels I liked on Facebook and did a buy, Team Dynamics that I thought were a charcoalish black but turns out is actually a Carbon Fibre dip. I hate fake carbon but the colour is growing on me.
Nothing done to the Astra, it just works as always, with the now resurrected Mondeo dead it got used more, but me and the boy have been having a bit of fun with the Saxo, making a little rally car out of it. Hasn't cost a lot and he loves going in the racing car. Now to find a road rally or club to join to actually use it The previous owner also saw it today, was so glad it had been rescued and we were having fun with it
