Does anyone have any tips for renewing or refurbishing chrome plated plastic parts? E.g. grill edge trim I'm planning on using a spray can, but wondered if anyone knew better.

I am trying some chrome body wrap material on some platic trim around my windscreen which looks just like chrome, my trim is fairly flat, something with more form may be difficult.

Remember a similar thing years ago with some plastic for a motorbike. The owner contacted Hornby or Airfix as they both produce chromed plastic parts for their goods

If it can be fixed with a hammer, then it must be an electrical fault

You can actually get plastic re-chromed, depending on your budget. It might be worth asking some platers, or instrument/gauge specialists.

The other thing to look at is whether any of the headlamp refinishers can do it. The company I used - Dual Metallising in Bromsgrove - also refurbish reflectors for MGFs among other moderns, which are plastic. I believe it's a process called aluminium vapour deposition. There's also electroless nickel plating, though one plating company I talked to suggested it didn't last very long.
