Fantastic, I spent some time in Denmark when I was 16, I had a FS1edx over here but blasted around on a puch maxi with my Danish mates, got stopped a couple of times for no helmet but coppers were fairly cool about it. Glad it's working for you, it looks great in that colour.
Yeah the coppers just gives you a smile when you got a ride like this Really pleaced with the result but it is not everybodies cop of tea as the purists hate something like this Only thing is that i could have bought a mint original for half the price of the build costs but then again i would not have got the experience
If I only had known...... As 12 13 year old kids we used to get moppets for free, bought them for sometimes up to FL25.00 and just chucked them after they broke down/died from abuse. I had a fair few Maxi's. They were really strong little bikes. I even bought a black one brand new when I was about 16 Later I got into the moppets with gears like Zundapps etc.
Bloddy old ting has desided not to start any more so now i am getting the big guns in line and are getting a motorbike mechanic to fix it next week. Hate fixing the thing after spending so much money on it and especially with nothing but sunshine outside
Used to have it's "slighty" more speedy brother when I was 16 Puch "Grand Prix" purchased a tea chest of bits when I was 15 and restored/recommissioned to co-incide with my 16th birthday when I could legally ride it
Nice. I have a 1978 Maxi S sitting in my garden, keep meaning to get it running again as at the moment it doesn't start. Maybe this year I'll take it apart and fix it, I did buy a haynes workshop manual so hopefully that will help!
Sot he moped was finished in the summer of 2016, and i did end up driving it to and from work (30 km each way) for the entire summer and driving well over 2000 kms on it XD It did pretty well albeit a little uneconomical compared to the factory numbers. it did around 25 km/l and standard it should do 45 km/l. It did not have fenders on and som other little bits and bobs. So the following years i have did a little here and there and did adjust the carburetor better and so on.
I still have it today and probably forever and right now the big thing is som adjustment after a new air filter was fitted and maybe stripping it of its paint. The reason for this is that i forgot to reweld a little tap on the frame that holds the front end of the back fender. This results in the fender getting dangerously close to the wheel :/ Fixing this would mean stripping the paint of the frame as it is powder coated and therefore not possible to touch up. Doing this i think i would strip the rest including the chrome because new chrome these days is good for 2 years before pitting. Then Painting everything in a standard RAL color so i would be able to touch up paint. But time will tell if i get around to it
On top of the Maxi i have required several new projects and sold some again
Because of my job in the other end of the country i found myself needing a second moped, because you always need one to pudle about the countryside. The only problem with this is that Denmark have seemed to notice how cool classic mopeds is and therefore prices have gone completely apeshit. Maxis now go for as much as 2000 pounds. Therefore i found the only moped that hasen't increased significantly in price. So say hello to registered vehicle number 3 in my fleet, the Velo Solex 3800 from 1971.
