That looks really good. However the fact that Tyres is spelt wrong would wind me up 🤗 Cheers, I know what you mean but it's a brand so it's just one of those things. It reminds me of when my dad wanted a Dodge Caliber around 2009 / 2010 but the wrongly-spelt caliber / calibre put him off.

Went to the park, about 10 mile round trip loaded up with Mrs minty, mini minty, and rusty dog. No arch rubbing although a few grumbles of stiffness- might tweak the hard to soft knobs a bit. Took a couple of obligatory photos ...

But yes, certainly would raise some eyebrows

With the Santa pod shows being back on and what looks like the remainder of the year’s shows looking more likely I’ve decided to give up on the audio build for a while and make sure the actual driveable bits of the truck are sorted. I had a look at the routing of the oil pipe today and had luck in that I could angle the hose directly up from the engine to a point that I could reach the pipe with an oil funnel and flexi pipe and there was even just enough space to screw the cap on and off. I then moved all the spare mdf from around the sides of the truck and cleared the tools and speakers from off the bed of the truck so it will be ready to take out. I was just about to move the truck out so I could move the build at the other end of the garage so I can progress it with it off the truck but showers came so I’ll have to save that for next time. Although I only did a few bits I’m glad I did some as I really couldn’t be bothered to do anything car related today to be honest!

It's not the heat so much as the hot and cold cycles. When it repeatedly stretches and shrinks it will start to sag, which is why some trucks have those wires or rails running the width of the bed. You just need a couple of metal rods or bars running the width of the bed, three or four should do it, stick a 90 degree bend on the ends so they can just drop into holes on the top of the bed rails, ideally with a rubber grommet so they don't rattle, and it'll support your tonneau and protect it from the worst of the temperature changes.
Also bear in mind the effects of UV on the tonneau, not all vinyls are treated to withstand UV and some can become very brittle very quickly which will also contribute to deformation of the tonneau especially without the supporting rods.

Thanks for that. Will see how she goes. The truck is garaged permanently and it’s let out for about 15 days a year maximum for car shows and probably half of those are indoor shows so hopefully things should be okay.

You'll probably be fine if it's kept indoors that much then.

I had a few hours of truck time yesterday after Mr Postman arrived with the valve cover gasket... Various in progress photos of removal / refit... Before... Oil filler hose removed... Breather pipes removed, is the white residue a sign of any potential issues? Four bolts holding cover in place removed and pulled out... I had problems removing the cover at that point, I also removed the belt top cover in case that was in the way of the valve cover, but it turned it out just needed a bit of leverage with a flat bladed screwdriver and she was off... Cover flipped over and new gasket comparison... Comparison with new and old gaskets... There was only one small split, not sure if this is enough for oil to escape but it was worthwhile taking it out of the equation. I then blasted the oil and general grime off with the jet wash at short quarters... On the inside of the cover there looks to be some kind of stress fractures, sign of any potential issues? Valve cover refitted... Top belt cover cleaned and refitted... Oil filler hose refitted and manifold and general area cleaned with tar remover spray, scrubbing brushes, paint brush, cloths, and sand paper. Ideally I’d have used steel wool and autoglym machine cleaner but I was all out... The main purpose of the thorough clean wax to make any remaining leaks more easily identifiable. I wanted to move on to a general clean up of the area towards the back of the truck which is in effect the bottom end but I ran out of time but also decided that it makes sense to do that when I have got some machine cleaner and steel wool.

Bed covers will always sag without support. If you didnt want permanant fixed bars or to have to drill any holes , then you could make a couple from poly-pipe bonded to plastic angle with a couple of strips of adhesive foam on the bottom to prevent marking the paint. Cut slightly oversized they would bow up and then under compression of the cover spread and hold themselves in place.

White deposits will just be alloy corrosion where the pipes sit, nothing to worry about unless the pipe stubs have rotted away. The 'stress cracks' are not at all. That's just what the inside of castings looks like. It's perfectly normal. Good work on tracking down the gasket!
