No truck progress until week after next but I did fall to sleep reading my workshop manual last night. A driveshaft removal sounds easy enough providing the parts aren’t seized or rusty. We’ll see. In other more interesting news a guy with a cool low rider minty coloured mini truck in japan decided to draw a picture of the Acty... And somehow fox’s sweets company found me on Twitter and have offered to send me some free mints!!!

I think the answer to those suggestions is something I was thinking about on the journey home and that’s to create spacer bars for the drop side pivots so that they can be dropped the full 90 degrees and locked in position down up lifted up easily for fixing stuff / accessing underneath. ... I must confess that I was thinking even further. I don´t know if there are any lind of hinge joints that can operate two doors? That way both the upper and lower side panels could be moved. There could even be a false bottom over the truck bed hiding the wheels and stuff. Actually the side panels of the bed could be raised up to the lower window line??? I guess I need to look for my own mini truck!

You’re welcome, I am turning into a weird person who wanders round taking photos of random cars now though. Worth a try to give them a shout but I think they struggle for parts as well. Was chatting to the mechanic (showed him this thread that made him smile) and he said they struggled for parts -they had to get the brake cylinders sleeved when they rebuilt it. Shaun is the service manager and I told him to look up your thread. James

I remember from mine I split the cv boot. Removing a drive shaft is a pain in the bum on a acty. The drum is pressed on so needs a puller to remove and the cv joints have to be pressed out. The shaft needs to come out of the gearbox first, there isn't enough room to clear the outer joint. Even with the whole rear axle unbolted from the body.
The TN model like yours has all sorts of parts on ebay you might get lucky.

I watch for parts on eBay every day but sadly no driveshafts. Just need to hope the ones on my spare truck are good enough.

Back from hols and a few magazine photos to report... Fast Car Magazine from japfest Retro Japanese magazine from japfest And then a purposely purchased street machine from July 1985 featuring an Acty with a vw variant engine Also in the post was my box of mints Which was perfect accompaniment to attacking the donor truck.

Interior and front panel strip down... Before... Front badge stayed in one piece (A already missing)... Dash out... Presumably this was an aftermarket washer pump repair replacement ... Heater unit out... Interior and front panel wiring loom and wiper motor removed... Handbrake and gear stick removed... Exterior before... Prepared (eeking the life out of that cutting disc) ... A pillar cuts... Front panel folded down... A few more cuts along bottom edge here and there and I just folded the front panel up and down until it snapped off completely... Similar process with the roof, looks cool with a custom angled roof! A few cuts and lots of bending up and down and the roof was free too... The back panel of the cab will be cut along the bottom too leaving a flat-ish truck with the running gear underneath. I was running short of time though so didn’t have time for more cutting. The last of my hour or so was spent making space in the cupboard for the parts that I’d removed by taking mdf offcuts and an Acty roof to the tip. I also managed to shuffle the truck over on the trolley jack to give me access to the driver side rear wheel, the wheel came off but I then found out I need a 32mm socket to remove the hub nut so left it there for the day.

If my memory serves me right, the engine in this is based on half off a Honda gold wing bike motor. I wonder how hard it would be to fit a gold wing lump in the little truck. Yes that's right. oh yeah i suppose i do have both halves now! my technical ability limits me to cable-tieing them together.

17:47 > Prep ... 18:15 > Rear wheels off and everywhere sprayed with penetrating oil ... 19:50 > Apart from about twenty minutes eating tea I spent an hour and a half trying to get the first hub nut to budge. I spent ages adjusting the handbrake to make it tighter before I realised that I removed the lever on Sunday so adjustment just makes the cable spin around!! Handbrake refitted, cable tightened. G clamp wedged between wheel studs and floor. wrench jumped on up and down until G clamp bent but more importantly hub nut loosened!! No photo but passenger side followed about ten minutes later - it’s all about technique!! 20:42 > 50 minutes spent removing 8 nuts holding the axle to the leaf springs. Cause of time was lack of access for a ratchet spanner or socket due to the spring bump stops being in the way. 21:25 > By which time I had levered the inner joint out of the gear box 22:45 > The axle is free!! Not quite as planned as the hub puller diameter was too short to reach across the wheel stud PCD so I just decided to leave them in place. The handbrake cable needed clipping through and i sawed through the rear brake hose with a pad saw. Oh and I had to get the angle grinder on the bottom nuts on the offside rear strut. But THE AXLE IS FREE! Even better news is that the CV boots look nice and tight albeit a little perished, the retaining plate is all intact and bolted in position as opposed to my main truck, and there’s no signs of anything loose or covered in grease splatter like there is in my main truck. The plan now if possible is to remove the driveshafts from the axle in one piece - well one per side obviously - and leave them together before fitting to my main truck as I think splitting them down might cause more issues about getting them back together which I believe to be the cause of my current driveshaft issues. I’ve ordered a bigger hub puller so that should arrive Thursday and then will probably get a professional to fit the driver side shaft to my main truck so I know it’s done properly. Well I’ll see if I’m feeling brave enough! Then in terms of refurb / replacement etc I’ll investigate with the one that’s currently on my main truck.

Could you make use of a spare pair of Acty door mirrors? I've accidentally ended up with a pair I have no use for.
