A quick bit of lunchtime modifying applying laminx on the rear fog lights. Template created with fingernail into the recess... Cut out... Remembered to flip over for other side... Applied after a wipe down with tissue...

Those light mods are an MOT fail now. Not that that is an issue for you for a while eh! The front end treatment looks much better though with the blacked out lights. So does the back too. Lots cleaner!

There are plenty of silly minor rules we all break, lets be fair.

Interestingly though based on guidelines I wonder if it would come under Minor - Pass "No significant effect on the safety of the vehicle or impact on the environment." I guess it's down to the perception of what is considered as significant.

Interestingly, if you find this kind of thing interesting one supposes, there is no RFR for 'product applied to lens' applicable to DRL lamps or indeed rear fog lamps, ONLY currently headlamps. So it would appear I jumped the gun somewhat and was talking out of my jacksie

My daily is a SAAB 9-3. they burn out the sidelight bulbs for fun. I've had 4 fails in 8 years for "product applied to sidelight bulbs".
There was no product, they just burn a little orange.
This year I fitted ice white LEDs.
"They flicker. They're a fail mate"
'sakes.

No such RFR any more, I don’t think you can manually RFR’s on the new system unless anyone who IS a tester cares to correct me. They should use ‘not visible from a reasonable distance’ or whatever the wording is. And if the LEDs aren’t flickering at time of test and display the correct colour,, pass. I can’t see why your garage doesn’t like your Saab very much!

My new oil filler hose arrived but they sent 38mm ID instead of 32mm. Any suggestions for what I can do with this one?!

Minty I follow this on instagram, it's changed a few times since that look actually - now has orange / yellow / white stripes down the side which suits it nicely.

I’ve been trying to decide how best to fit my rear lights onto a smoother panel and an idea come into my head. What if i flip the upper tailgate panel around? The mounting tabs / holes will need cutting off and moving over an inch or so and I can cut away some metal behind and it will sit flat... Fix it with some quick release bolts rather than weld in place and then to access to the engine I can flip it up... Quick edit of how metal will be cut away so engine and running gear will be accessible ... One of the LED lights temporarily stuck in place with Velcro ... The other light will be on opposite side with fog in the middle, all along that recess that I’ll probably cover with black plexi-glass and the reg will be mounted on centre of panel, look out Rolf Harris...

So let a mate in the trade take it to where he sends all his.

I can’t see why your garage doesn’t like your Saab very much! This was 18 months ago. New test place last summer, no issues. They only flicker if you leave it unlocked, as they're canbus/non-canbus issues.

A few more parts to the puzzle have arrived, an interior washer bottle and bulkhead washer adaptor hidden behind the wiper arm means I can fix a washer jet to the wiper arm and the standard washer jets and external washer filler cap can all be smoothed for a clean front end. Details that no one will ever notice once it’s finished.

I had a few hours of me time tonight so decided to test out my “black bar” front end concept with the help of some Montana hardcore Matt black paint. Headlights and surrounds removed and wiring covered in bubble wrap... Upper line masked and headlight surrounds placed in to check where edges come to... Lining paper always comes in handy... A single coat of paint and a single coat of lacquer ten minutes later just to add a bit of sheen, as I say it’s just to check I liked the look before I committed to it... Unmasked... She can see again!!! Until I put her sunglasses on... You can see the silver edge of the headlight retaining ring in this photo but they’ll be powder coated black to blend in properly... Front bumper will be sorted in good time - possibly removed completely and panel smoothed behind or just a flat bar without reg plate on and without indicators recessed into it.
