Urgh, stickyboots. I wouldn’t waste your time personally. If you can’t remove at least one end of the shaft (you can remove the gearbox end to do this) and use a stretchy boot and cone at the very least I wouldn’t bother doing it. Those glue things just don’t last. I’ve not seen the stretchy boots before so will consider that next time but last time I used a sticky boot it lasted me ok for the mileage I do on the truck - it’s the boot that survived on the current axle when the original perished.

If any of the old boots are intact and not split I definitely wouldn't remove them to fit those in their place. Stickyboots are an MOT bodge for cheapskates and not anything more If they see you through however.. Look into stretch boots with the fitting cone next time. Probably quicker than faffing with glue and grease all in the same place too

I don’t think any are in tact. Cheapskate here reporting for duty! I checked out videos with the fitting cone after your post and “seem” to do what I’d need. Haha, say no more I've used the cone method to fit boots for the past 10 year or so, I've only just recently moved into a workshop that has the 'air stretcher' to fit them. I hated CV joint gaiters until I started fitting stretchy ones with a cone. Even easier now with the air tool. Yeah I saw the claw ones. They look great! Shame you need air supply for them. By the way I’ve gone upmarket getting tools for the metal clips as I used to use cable ties

I hated CV joint gaiters until I started fitting stretchy ones with a cone. Even easier now with the air tool. Yeah I saw the claw ones. They look great! Shame you need air supply for them. By the way I’ve gone upmarket getting tools for the metal clips as I used to use cable ties I still use cable ties. I may be slightly lazy..

Task list - Cylinder head first. View from above through engine hatch ... Jacked up and on stands... Looks cute like it’s landing from a ramp jump... How it looked like before today with the hose running to the front end I added last year some time ... Top hoses removed... Original cylinder head removed and side by side... Seal fitted to the modified head... Hose cut down and fitted... View from the engine bay, the other components look really dirty in comparison and engine bay cleaning up something for the future... Engine cover still fits...

Next on the list was sorting out my rear registration. I wasn’t happy with the plate on the hinged bracket mechanism I set up because I had to get right down on the floor to remove the plate at shows and the hinge moved down by itself if I used the hydraulic suspension at shows. I came up with a plan to replace the reg plate with a magnetic one and the reg light with a magnetic one at some point since my last show in September 2020. I already had the plate from 2019 as it was too deep to fit under the truck at maximum lows so had to buy a second before i had even used this one. I bought magnetic tape and applied it to the back... The light I had bought didn’t have a flush back so I had to glue plasticard to the back at first to make it flush... Applied magnetic tape... And touched up any visible white plasticard with some matt black nail varnish from the Rita Ora collection, it doesn’t have to be from her collection, any nail varnish should do the job. The connectors on the light will slot through the gap between the tailgate and the lower panel so when I arrive at shows or want a quick photo shoot I can simply unplug the light connector and take both off and fit them to the inside of the tailgate out of sight... It’s just a shame that i didn’t think of this when the new panel was built and I asked the body shop to drill holes in the fresh panel for the bolted in light. I’ve decided to leave that in place for now. The next job on the list was to do the same with the rear fog, that was even worse than the number plate hinge as due to the bulk of the light it never fully hinged up out of the way so I removed all that mechanism and rerouted the cable up to the bed. No photos of the removed mechanism as I did it back in October so it’s not on my phone now and the new light is somewhere on a ship probably in the Suez Canal traffic jam so I’ll photograph that when it’s here. CV boots is the next job to do when I have more truck time!

I felt utterly demoralised after the cv boots beat me at the weekend and decided to walk away from the truck before i attacked it with a screwdriver. I have a different kind of cv boot clips in the post to see if I can conquer them with that and if not I have cable ties that will do the job at least until I get to the garage for it’s MOT. In the meantime I decided to get something done which I’d been planning since lockdown one and that was to revisit my youth and play Monkey Island. I guess it was because the solutions were still languishing in my memory but I completed the game in about four sessions. Back to the Acty then. My new slimline and lightweight fog light arrived my ebayland... Using same principles as the reg light I spaced out the back with a channel for the cable using plasticard... ... I cut strips of magnetic tape to size, heated the adhesive with a hairdryer, and fixed them to the plasticard... I then glued the plasticard to the back of the light and used masking tape to keep them tight together for a while, although they felt stuck solid after a few seconds holding tight together ... Cables are all fixed together and wrapped in self amalgamating tape and the light can be magnetised to the outside of the tailgate for road use or inside of the tailgate for shows and minimal look...

Another thing I’ve been meaning to do for a while is to get an original looking domed badge made for the tailgate panel. As standard it would have had a foil backed rectangle sticker with Honda on but I think domed is more appropriate. It has a recess so has always looked unfinished in my eyes but one of those things I’ve not wanted to spend money on up to now. Previously I just put a spare Instagram name sticker on there. Any way I used masking tape to get a guide to measure the recess and corners radius... Then stuck it to my desk to accurately measure and mark up... I’ve added text on my phone to send to the guy making the sticker, the HONDA text will be the properly spaced font ... I’m waiting for a mock-up image before it will be made.

Somehow, custom 2 looks very 70's and works well.
Seeing them all next to each other, I prefer the standard one.
