Ahh, that makes sense! Thanks for that ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) I would not recommend the use of foam rollers in the first place for applying the paint that is being used - a good quality mini gloss roller would be far better - but needs to be good quality has stated not your large DIY chain branded stuff - Purdy are the go to product when it comes to high end brushes / rollers - link below www.purdy.com/products/rollers/Yeah my Harris ones are breaking up a little but not too bad.

I decided to let the paint dry before giving it a second coat - originally I was going to go right back around again but I didn’t want to ruin the good work that the second coat was. Good job really as it ended up raining again! Too late to affect the paint work though. I did get chance to paint the wheel centres in Montana hardcore graffiti paint though... Before... ![](https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190504/6b40341de4608550c923e478a847b116.jpg) After... ![](https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190504/24c08782c18314f22f8d4477def945c9.jpg) ![](https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190504/da16351cf0494bad856038886f7e8a90.jpg) And I also decided to take Ethan to japfest to watch some racing / drifting so washed the Ignis even if it will just be in visitor parking. ![](https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190504/f2987d84a1f0ec34aa3649dbd9e4182a.jpg) ![](https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190504/7beacfc3679e815945f6133bbe3c52e7.jpg) Shame really as i would have got the alloys sorted and fitted in advance if I’d thought I might end up going!

Hints of Sunny ZX Coupé to the front end in that last shot. Funny enough that was Mrs Minty’s first car, an all black rather than two tone though.

7 hours after completing the first black coat I went back out to do the second coat so that I could peel the masking tape as soon as possible. It was touch dry by then, it might have been earlier but I’d been out doing none car related family stuff. Masking tape off and a surprisingly crisp line! ![](https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190506/d9d6e79c21f7259a1ba34e4ae2d9f3f7.jpg) Near side done... ![](https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190506/84b67b2bc6c725b0779225ef28e4ea01.jpg) Close-up... ![](https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190506/905172df72a2470f35478e9c3102adcb.jpg) Second coat of black completed on front and rear, and door shuts and steps painted in black too, although it got too dark to be able to tell in a photo any way... ![](https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190506/b0441d46754ae923e1741563ab58c94c.jpg) Next step is to mask the black up and do a third coat of white, I should have done that before the black but I didn’t have time to do all the white area this morning and wanted to make some progress. Then next steps... Paint petrol flap white Paint rear corner trim panels white Paint back of rear number plate white and fit vinyl numbers to rear so it can be flipped and fitted other way at shows Paint boot shuts / bonnet shuts / door shuts / etc white Mask off rest of car and paint window B and C “posts” with black spray paint Paint black over areas of white paint that I’ve got on rubber / plastic trims Refit petrol flap and rear corner trim panels Wet sand 1000 all over Wet sand 1500 all over Refit front indicators / rear number plate panel / lower front grill / window trims Spread another layer of filler on front grill panel thing Sand back filler layer on front grill panel thing Spray Paint front grill panel thing black Spray paint front corner trim panels black Apply vinyls I wish I hadn’t typed that list out, it felt shorter in my head!

Why do I think Renault 18
Why do I think Renault 18 I thought Renault.... as you 18, but with a bit of 25 at the front end :/ Funnily enough when I first stripped off the grill front indicators etc I thought it reminded me of Adey ‘s Renault 12 as it was a similar shade of pale metallic green ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

Then next steps... *list of things* Is the list to be finished before the Weekender? Yes Possibly vinyls on site. It should be doable, as long as dry weather coincides with the time I have allocated / most of it can be done in the rain or inside but the third coat of white paint can’t. (Obviously)

That's great - thanks. As an InitialD fan I'm more than happy with the black & white. If you get bored with that you could do a mickey take of a US cop car

The weather had other plans. It rained and still looked likely to rain so I didn’t want to risk masking all up and doing another white coat only for the rain to ruin it. So I decided to wet sand the black half. Cutting the paper in block sized strips - 4 strips out of each sheet was perfect size, presumably by design... ![](https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190507/d6a13a5f75f2cdae225d37c89aff1ea8.jpg) Soaked in fairy’s finest... ![](https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190507/36a0ded9ca15574705840658a84acbe4.jpg) Orange peel before... ![](https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190507/5e65d80f0cf47ba80ae622eac6d2595d.jpg) Smooth after (panel on right) but I went too deep and through to paint underneath! Sh1t on it as Martin would say. ![](https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190507/ece39a4c17919306c897a1997f6513bb.jpg) It’s wet in the above photo to show the difference but dried in below... ![](https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190507/7128a85cc3525f5245355f92b3523974.jpg) So not only am I an evening behind on the paint I now need to do another black coat and then decide whether to risk sanding again or stick with orange peel. I might do 4 coats on the areas I’m going to apply graphics, sand them back and polish up prior to the weekender so I can get the graphics on at least and then sand back and polish the rest of the car at a later stage. At least I can do one panel at a time in between shows then. In other news a stripe of minty vinyl arrived... ![](https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190507/48c468c322f9f5bbf4dfd35e7ba5071e.jpg) I bought this to hide the dodgy line between white and black not expecting it to be so neat but will probably use it any way.
