Nice to follow the process, I like your welding skills!

Never seen this project before, those Fulvia's are so cool! Nice to follow the process, I like your welding skills! Is not really really hard to find parts for a Fulvia? thanks for that. I'm learning alot as I go. Some stuff for fulvias is hard to find but it really depends on what one your getting parts for. mine is an early one so some things for them are not easy to get. Like the brake bits....there are very few cars that have the same dunlop cylinders. Some 60's ferraris daimlers jags have them so you can guess how cheap they are.....I found its much cheaper to buy new competion ones for jags than use original stuff. The series two and three fulvias are a bit easier. I'm not desperate for the car to be "original" if theres a better alternative I will do that.

ive just received this manifold and there is quite a problem with the poor welding around the joints and the ports on the face of the manifold itself. I'm not too worried about the welding around the ports into the manifold as i can grind them smooth. But where the joints connect in the tubing there must be a bad flow problem. The tubes have been squashed and then cuts made in the sides of the other tubes (with a plasma cutter by the look of it) so the flow round these areas will be bad. Anyone got some good ideas how to improve these bits. My welding is only okayish and have never done that kind of thing. Cant get inside with a die grinder at the tube joints. Will it have to be cut and remake with wider tube at the joints. Any ideas???

Sorry to say but that manifold looks like complete garbage. I would use the stock Lancia one, or is it beyond use? Here in the US we can buy replica HF headers for $400, have you tried Omicron? The rest of the car looks great. I love those wheels.

its usual for the manifolds to be welded on the inside of the flange, it helps prevent the flange warping. those butt joints into the sides of its partner tube, yeah it does look a like a blind arthritic chimp welded it, but the design isn't horrific, if it was perpendicular to the other pipe then it would be, but its been angled and scalloped in, a small amount of ovaling of the tube is also not a deal breaker.
"with small cams and standard mufflers even very odd, inefficient looking tubular headers can work just as well as nice looking headers with big diameter equal length primaries"
from graham bells modern engine tuning

The standard lancia one that was on my Fulvia, had similar tube join designs (albeit slightly neater execution) and the same problems with internally welded joints that contracted the tubes.
I did grind out the inside of the tubes where the welds were, as you mention, and I'm sure it made a difference, even if only to the sound!
The cars coming along great by the way! The blue grey primer colour you've got in the sill and arches suits the car really well actually. A shiny top coat version would be very tasteful.

The rest of the car looks great. I love those wheels. The manifold is a stock Lancia design although its a cheap copy. Its really badly welded on to the sides of the tubes......but its cheap so you do get what you pay for. I have tried Omicron and have bought plenty and had work carried out by them and you get what you pay for from them. They are really good but generally out of my budget.

"with small cams and standard mufflers even very odd, inefficient looking tubular headers can work just as well as nice looking headers with big diameter equal length primaries" from graham bells modern engine tuning The original series one manifold is a beautifully cast 4 into 1 manifold with a kind of ball join that fits into the socket of the exhaust down pipe. The series 2 mostly have this kind of design tubular 4 into 2 then a dual down pipe into a bigger bore back pipe. The cast series 1 manifold always leaks as its got no gasket to clamp down onto and has to rely on a good fit (which its not on my car) so there may be some gain with the tube. The head has unequal length passages to the valves so the longer inner tubes help with that. But the constriction at the joins is not great. Hopefully the general design will help if I smooth as much of the rough stuff out as I can.

I'm thinking alot about the colour scheme for the car and seem to go wildly from stock original white to stripes and then to matt black bonnet and boot. But I'm really getting into the pop art look. Though whatever I do, I will try to make it look less like I did it with my eyes shut and waved a spray can about. (which is not far off what happened)

not much been going on with the fulvia recently except ive fitted some braided fuel hose from the electric pump to the mechanical pump. The carbs have developed a leak via the spacer from the manifold to the carb bodies. This is a rubber spacer which often springs a leak , so a quick strip down and reseal with some quality silicon will have to do for the moment.

Had a two steps back problem......The engine seems to have a real low oil pressure problem. It runs well but there are some strange noises. The noises are all faint and didnt worry me too much until they got louder. The oil pressure gauge didnt work along with the other dash guages ,water temp and fuel gauge. Now that they do work it seems theres nearly no oil pressure at all. I thought that the gauge didnt work but it probably has worked all along. The first noises are I think the timing chain and the distributor drive. They arent too bad but getting to be louder than they should be. The tweaty noise that I thought was a small air leak in the carb mounts could be a valve thats a bit dry. All of these things are right at the top of the engine and I think are a bit dry. SOOOOO....lots of telling myself thats it probably nothing....but then took the leap to take the engine out and investigate. You cant get to the oil pump easily with the engine still in the car. Anyway theres that small weepy crack in the block and I need to clean up the engine bay. Taking the engine out went well except that I didnt see the bolt at the very bottom of the bellhouseing and busted the casting getting it out. The bolt is shadowed by the subframe and you need to jack the gearbox up about an inch to see it ......I have got another but still was really curse word off about it. Heres some pics; bellhousing with the piece of the casting busted off.
