If you had a servo, that, and it's hose/connector, would be suspects. Check the blanking plug. Of course, manifold gaskets need checking. Listen with your stethoscope, matron! I don't know about hot starting issues with electronic ign.

Hullo Luke
A small air leak would not prevent starting. Furst check that you have a spark - at the plugs. Does you system still use points? If so check that they ahven't closed up. Double check the ignition timing. I found years ago that 1300s were very sensitive to the plug gap (25 thous). I daresay that 1200s are much the same.

To be honest I think the rusty fuel tank is favourite. Not got points any more. I will have a play about with it today check the various gaps etc and report back.

I always suspect ignition first. Did the timing move? Dizzy loose or contact plates inside , I'd check that. I have no problem with hot starts, and it gets hot around these parts. I run Pertronoix. peteh1969 said they were expensive? I just use the ignitor on the stock dizzy, they run about $115.

slightly embarrassed now. I had a look at the fulvia today. heres the fuel filter blocked with curse word. heres the insides of the carbs no fuel at all. So I re- cleaned out the carbs all the filters and took the plug out of the tank. About 5 drips came out of the tank. So no fuel and the dregs went through into the carbs and blocked everything again. I chucked a couple of gallons in the tank and it started first touch. What a "doh-nut" Well it runs well and the quick run round the block was excellent. The old girl has got a bit of grunt too! Had a huge grin on my face. The idle still wanders around quite alot but I'm fairly sure the distributor is not behaving as it should. Its just worn and the weights for the advance are slack. The electronic ignition is working properly. Realistically theres not much to go wrong, it either works or doesn't at all. Got the windscreen washers working and even found and fitted a clock that works too. Moving forward to MOT time.

At least you found something and got it running again, it would of been bad if you had found nothing.
Well done.

Carpets!! Excess weight, and a brilliant water trap. Rubber mats are lighter and don't hold water, and they're how it came out of the factory. But, hey... each to his own :-) MOT booked?

Hahaha, Yes thats true, but sorry Justin, I would have rubber any day its got a 'cool' look too, but cant afford a set at the moment. I'm getting the MOT booked they are not there today. Mine had a burgundy carpet set when I bought it and a really rotten rubber sort of mulch under that. So the wet carpet sweated the rubber..... not nice.

If you know of a source for the original rubber mats, let me know. Might reduce the racket a bit

Well my next suggestion would have been to remove one of the carburettor tops and see if there is any petrol in there. Clearly this is no longer necessary. Ultimately it's always a matter of petrol and sparks! Rgds Paul

plums! How bloody frustrating. Must've run too low when you took me round the block. Try the magnet idea, to pick up any metal/rust crud from the tank. I'll ask around for a tank plug with the arms to support the gauze filter, which yours is missing. I doubt much would've got through your inline filter, to contaminate the carbs again. Check the filter first. Use any time to change the shocks ~ you'll be surprised how much better it'll feel.
