I know theres one or two of you on here.
I'm after a set of rear seat belts for a Mk3 Cortina and am told Halfords do them, but on another forum chap was told "nah mate" when asking after some there.
Can someone confirm if they are available, if they come as a single or as a pair, if all mounting hardware is included and the price. Ta.
I appreciate I could go in store but I have a moderate chance of just being fobbed off "if its not on the shelf mate" attitude and would rather go in armed in the knowledge.
Cheers
The static ones are fine, rather than the auto/retractable type (inertia reel)

How long ago?
Unfortunately my two nearest full size Halfords are the wrong side of horrible road works and the easy to get to ones are staffed by numpties

Just a thought, will sierra/granada/escort items fit with a bit of adaption?

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

possibly buy there is a suggestion via elsewhere that the Halford kit is Securon and a mere £16 which strikes me as a bargain for a set of new belts. IIRC the (admittedly way cooler) Quickfit belts are more like £120 a pair for statics.

Ah, could well have stopped selling them by now then. My nearest one only sells air fresheners and polish now.

Following some reconnaissance work while out getting some milk, i can tell you that Halfords stopped stocking seatbelts 2 years ago due to H&S issues and all of their old stock was returned to the supplier.

FWIW I ordered some static rear belts for the Imp from Quickfit SBS - the price was £76.95 or something like that. (They arrived yesterday so I know this is the current price!) I got the impression from talking to them that all their static belts are £25 plus VAT and devillry. I did have to measure up some bits for them and it took a couple of weeks as they are made to order. But they don't take the money until they're ready to ship...

i thought lap belts and carrying 3 in the back were now illegal, - when the new child seat laws came into effect

I guess as you may want to strap your new family in the back you might want to buy NEW ones but..... I took these out of the back of my Celica about 8 years ago. The car was never involved in any accidents to stress them, and as I knew the car from new, I'm fairly sure no one ever even sat in the back to use them. They're inertia reel and work fine, no damage to the webbing. A bit dusty from storage. I think they are a generic design. I have all the fixings (somewhere) as well. I can bring them to RR07 - and they will cost you the princely sum of one pint of beer (something decent though - no Kestral or the like)

AFAIK and not being a lawyer, (ie please don't sue me ) the new seatbelt rules are based around what is there in the car. You can still do three in the back or indeed have children unrestrained in the back if that is what the car has for equipment. I believe the child has to be over 3 though. I know that I have on occasion put my six year old unrestrained in the back of the Imp so that I could strap my 2 year old in his child seat in the front, and still be inside the law... First quote: The law requires that drivers and passengers aged 14 and over in cars, vans and other commercial vehicles must wear a seatbelt if available. www.thinkroadsafety.gov.uk/campaigns/childcarseats/childcarseats.htmIf you look at this link then you will see that an over 3 year old can be squeezed in the middle if the fitting of two appropriate seats means that the proper seat doesn't fit in the middle. TBH you'd either have to have twins or triplets or be really busy to manage to have 3 children under the age of 3... or four if you stick one in the front seat... Note, no flames please, this is my interpretation of what the law says, not what I believe is a sensible way of looking after the next generation of your family. As I've said, I'm sorting out rear belts for the Imp even though technically I could just let the oldest rattle around in the back... HTH Graham

I've been busy ! Child three is due in on month, eldest is four in January !!! T.V. has been curse word you know.I don't want to use the lap belt for the seat but i do need to know if there is a three point conversion for the offending lap belt so my little darlings are safe....did i mention i was "blessed" with a full herd of girls ? If is a no go then it will have to be better half in the middle rear surrounded by two child seats and another child in the front (which i defo do not want to do). If's only the shopping trolley which is not the fastsest mode of transport going but it's alwayd the un-insured dick-head that could cause the damage.

Jack, thanks for the reckie I'd heard meastro belts fit, now find me a Maestro being broken with good rear belts... I like the idea of new seatbelts as its for the little 'un. I also want static ones for ease of fitment, no arzing about with the retractor reel then. Might put inertia ones in the front at some time. I might see if I can order the Securon belts direct. £25 ea from Quickfit sounds pretty decent. I presume thats plys VAT if you paid £72.something for the pair delivered?
