Brilliant little budget build - I'm impressed. So would you say the Turbo setup is better suited to track use? A mate of mine has started track days and wants more speed for his MX5.
Great to see the CAD to 3D printing being used so easily, Really accessible technology which 10 yrs ago could only be done by specialists.

Really interesting, would like to know more about the 3D printing and what CAD package you use.

My knowledge/skills/mindset has come a long way since I began mainly due to a career change! I am lucky to have access to some of the things I do! With regards to turbos, absolutely! The turbo is honestly fantastic, that being said perhaps I would supercharge it if I were to go FI again, I think that the linear power delivery really suits the car, and I enjoy having to work it a little rather than just getting buckets of torque straight out of the gate. If you want to go really fast cheap the turbo is the way forward though, can get 210bhp and a good wedge of torque from about 2500rpm all the way up, it really is FAST. If it wasn't for the hard saving towards a house I would keep it and track it hard, but such things are expensive and personally while its a hoot to boot it and feel the power surge I think for fun on the roads less is often more. The 3D printing is something I really love, and since I first saw one knew I had to have! Obviously it has limitations when it comes to stress and heat (having said that, there are some mega strong plastics out there now that can be annealed post print, not to mention are good for up to ~250C accessible to a cheap home printer). Really interesting, would like to know more about the 3D printing and what CAD package you use. Thanks, I use Solidworks to do all my drawings. I spent a long time pawing over youtube and teaching myself the ins and outs and for that I think I can credit getting a job which I was at the time far from qualified to do! So I have a lot of love for it. My printer is an eBay special from china that cost £140, I have nigh on rebuilt the entire thing and spent hours playing with firmware and other settings to get to a point where I am happy with it, but its all been great fun. As above its brilliant how accessible this stuff is now to the home user.

Long time no update, far longer than I thought. This weekend after a bit of resurgence of interest in the car I fitted my ITB set up, still awaiting a selection of bits to sort out all the vac lines but I managed to make it run! Drew up some flanges and milled them out, got them welded onto my hacked manifold, I also sourced the original mounting boots from the throttle bodies, as it happens they actually match the ports of the mazda manifold relitively well so with a little die grinder action it's pretty smooth all the way through. I made up some 63mm trumpets, potentially will make peak torque a little high end but we will see. Had to extend a couple of the tabs on the throttle actuation links so I just welded on some tiny extensions like so. ![](http://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/tom132/46226bf340fa.jpg) Finished product looks a little like this: There is a video of them fitted but I can't currently upload it.
