Here you go;
1. All doors, provided on the vehicle for the entry and exit of occupants, shall be designed as to allow easy and safe use. Doors shall have both intermediate and fully latched positions and their latches shall be designed to prevent the doors from opening accidentally. However, latching in an intermediate position is not required if a safety-bolt with an audible warning device is provided as specified in paragraph 2(b) below.
For the purposes of this item, “longitudinal plane” means a vertical plane parallel to the longitudinal axis of a vehicle. Paragraph 3 shall not apply to doors which do not give direct access to a seat designed for normal use while a vehicle is travelling on a road. This includes any door, for which the longitudinal plane passing through the extreme inboard projecting point of such a door is more than 300mm distant from the longitudinal plane passing through the nearest edge of such a seat. 2. Where hinges are used, the hinges shall be fitted at the front edge of the door. However, they may be fitted at the top or rear edge if either—
(a)a device is fitted which automatically closes the door at least to the intermediate latched position if it is unlatched when the vehicle is moving in the forward direction; or
(b)a safety-bolt is fitted to prevent such unlatching and an audible warning device is provided which activates an audible warning if the vehicle is driven without the bolt in place.
The latching requirements in paragraphs 1 and 3 shall not apply to any power-operated door if the force applied by the power actuator is sufficient to keep the door completely closed even when any load is applied as described in paragraph 3.
3. On hinged doors, the latch and striker assembly shall be capable of withstanding any load which is likely to be applied in the course of normal driving (i.e. excluding crash impacts) in both the intermediate and fully latched positions. However if a safety-bolt with an audible warning device is provided as specified in paragraph 2(b) above, the requirement need be met only with the bolt in place.

I need to re-evaluate.

In order to keep the car 100% UK road legal I have decided to keep the original door locks/latches (but doing away with the exterior handles), albeit heavily lightened :-)

Check with the safety regs with regards to loosing the outer handles as it may be a requirement to allow emergency personnel access for recovery during an incident?

My cars have none of that and passed SVA - where are those regs from? There is a big difference for what can be sold to the public under type approval and what is required or possible to do when in the hands of a private individual.
As for MSA regs - all you need to be able to do is exit the car in a good time. There is nothing to be gained by making the car difficult to get out of in an emergency or making it hard for others to get to you. If strapped in a burning wreck I would like to think that that rescuer would see an obvious access point in order to extract me.

Agreed, that's why there will be an aluminium push button on the outside of the door and some way of pulling the door open.

Biva Regs are a little tighter than those regs - they are construction & use regs. Either way it's not really a good idea to remove good 2 stage burst proof latches.

Going to have to find some weight to loose some elsewhere ! Are you close enough to being in one working lump (not finished I get the feeling this will be always in development !) that the driver weight has to be looked at now! Going to be a miserable Christmas avoiding all the mince pies ! Getting ever closer James

Going to be a miserable Christmas avoiding all the mince pies ! Getting ever closer James I will keep looking :-) I have been monitoring my weight (or should I say my wife has) for some time and it has been stable at 85kg. However, I am sure, with some sacrifices, I will be able to shave 5kg off of that :-)

Bet it will weigh less soon If I decide to use it, yes :-) However, I won't do any lightening until I am sure that I am going to use it so that it is resalable.

"Agreed, that's why there will be an aluminium push button on the outside of the door and some way of pulling the door open." "...some way of pulling the door open..." you already have one of these it's called a 'handle' why not loose some weight on existing items (external handle) ? Still an impressive build either way, keep up the good work ! ...
