Thanks for the compliment, but my work quality doesn't compare to a lot of the wonderful work done on many of the projects on here. Oh I don't know. One says, "I'll just machine an entire drive train from scrap nuclear submarines." Another says, "Oh, just give me a sheet of unobtainium and I'll knock up the body panels for a Bugatti that got crushed by a London bus." With you, it's "I need to rebuild 90% of my car, so stick it in the oven on gas mark 8 for two hours. And here's one we made earlier." I love the, "I need a bonnet. Well look what we got. I've just baked one"! Different folks, different strokes, but top skill levels applicable. Well said georgeb , well said.

In correspondence with my tame aerodynamicist with regard to the layout of strakes, skirts, splitters and VGs on my new underbody panels. Also discussing diffuser design. This is all very interesting and I no doubt will pick up a few tips from you, I think you're a month or two ahead of me on this. It's pretty much the same designs I am heading for with the 2cv except without the front strakes or VGs. Keep up the top work and research.

I'm guessing that the underside is a bit of a mess, aerodynamically, so a flattened floor will not hurt. However, I would advise a little caution on fitting a rear diffuser if the handling is pretty balanced at present. Fitting a rear diffuser may upset the front/rear balance without reciprocal mods to the front. Only one way to find out though.... :-)

Started to fit the rear section of the undertray. At the moment the wheel holes are 1" smaller all round than I estimate I will require for 10.5" wheels. It will be trimmed to size once I buy and fit the wheels. I anticipate that I will have to do a little boxing of the area under the wishbones to allow for movement. Once fitted I will take some measurements and then decide.

And it's either being worked on by a giant, or we now all suddenly realise how small the Elan really is Just out of interest, does it really need to have 305mm wide tyres on the back? Would a size or two down not provide as much grib with the benefit of getting heat in to them better and less rotating mass to spin up as well

And you are right regarding the rotating mass issue, always a consideration.

Fast 1/4's do not come cheaply.... Agreed, especially when not doing it the conventional way. Wrong car, wrong suspension, lack of power, too light (apparently) etc :-)

My own attempt at running a 13 ended up as a 14.01 but did only cost me £2500 including buying the car (Capri)
I've been in a car that runs street legal 10's using a cossie lump and it must've been twice as heavy as your car - THAT was properly fast - we were eating superbikes around the M25 on way to Brands one afternoon. Think he was running approx 450bhp but I also know he stopped counting the £££ after 30 large!

Counting the cost is bad for your health :-) I have all the large receipts (apart from cash deals :-) ) but the undocumented incidentals can add up to something scary.

The car is away having the wiring completed but I can still get on with jobs. In order to secure the undertray panels I need washers and nuts. However, as I will be bolting through the carbon/foam/carbon sandwich floor I need top hat nuts in order to prevent the floor from being crushed. The washers need to be a little aerodynamic (of course) and, as usual, what I want isn't available so once again it's lathe time :-) One pair down, around another 39 or so to go. Straight from the lathe so a little tidying up to do to the washer. The top hat will be glued into the floor and is threaded (M6) so also acts as the nut.

Will you need something compressible between the floor and the undertray to stop movement / rubbing?
RRG 18 penciled in the diary ?
