I made an air intake tube, some years ago now, that fitted between radiator and inner wing. It fitted fine but since I discovered carbon it has niggled at me. I finally could stand it no more and made a carbon version. Cleaned off all the paint. As the tube will have to be made in two parts (my first attempt at this process) I made a couple of barriers. The wax blobs are location keys but I will also bolt the parts together. Laid up the first section in fibreglass. Turned it over, removed the barriers and laid up second part. All surfaces have been treated with several coats of releasing wax prior to adding the fibreglass. Once cured I trimmed up the edges, drilled for clamping bolts and prised the mould from the pattern. After a little tidying up several coats of release agent were brushed on (couldn't use wax as this can't take the oven temps) and then the prepreg carbon was laid in the mould. One layer of 420g/m for the tube and two extra layers around each end. On one section the carbon is cut flush to the mould whilst on the other it is left around 20mm proud. This allows the carbon to be joined once the two mould sections are bolted together. Carbon was then covered with release film and breather cloth and put into the vacuum bag. Cooked in the oven at 140dec C for 30 minutes. Removed from oven and stripped from mould it came out pretty well for a first go. Weight saved - 380gms :-)

Well, as much as I can without compromising the original lines. The underside will be smoothed as much as possible but the body is pretty good already. However, I will be smoothing such areas as the windscreen edges and reducing panel edge gaps as much as possible.

Looking at the build I think it was a given !
Still loving the detail going into the build, thanks again for sharing.

Some of you may have been concerned that I had weakened and been seduced by the dark side. However, fear not gentle reader, I am made of sterner stuff and no evil weave will be visible on my car :-)

980gms, but 220gms ligher than what it replaces - throttle body, idle control valve and throttle blip actuator. I also lose the throttle cable and support brackets.

Getting serious now. Started on rough wiring plan that I can discuss with DC Electronics.

Any wiring diagram that includes 'Nitrous' and 'Parachute' switches has to be applauded. Different level of operation to us mere mortals..
Do you think people would believe it if I add a dynamo sticker with 'Nitros' on it to the switch with no apparent job on the Land Rover ?

Do you think people would believe it if I add a dynamo sticker with 'Nitros' on it to the switch with no apparent job on the Land Rover ? :-) Although there is a nitrous button and I have the kit ready and waiting, it won't be fitted until I am able to transmit all of the 520bhp I have at my disposal to the road. The fuel lines have been sized to allow for the additional fuel required if/when nitrous kit is fitted and the existing pair of Bosch 044 pumps will cope. Any car capable of sub 10 seconds or 150+mph requires a parachute at Santa Pod in order to race. Fitting the nitrous sticker will add 5mph to top speed and knock around a tenth off of your 0-50mph time.

If you fit 20 nitrous stickers will that knock 2 seconds off your time?

If you fit 20 nitrous stickers will that knock 2 seconds off your time? Not quite, as you have to factor in the extra weight.

What are you going to do to stop it taking off LOL Land Rover is much too heavy to take off, even with the nitrous sticker........Oh, you mean the Elan :-) Once up and running, I am looking to hire Santa Pod for a day, allowing me to dial the car in and build up speed gradually. This way any stability issues and tendencies to take off can be dealt with before anything too serious happens.

Not sure if we are ready to go from 50 to 55 mph top speed! and 1/10 off the 0-50 speed not going to make a whole bit o difference. Have been taking lessons and have hoovered some rust and crud from inside the chassis and removed the top for added lightness. Just need to refit the transmission with shiney new clutch...
Anyway you know you need the nitrous !
