It must be the season for it, my new build workshop is nearly ready for insulation too, 45x30 foot internal. The wall cavity is getting beads and the roof getting spray on closed cell foam, onto a vent card. Now, it is my turn to be jealous, there is always someone with a bigger one than yourself :-) Lets see some photos so we can really be hissed off :-) I looked into beads, but it worked out more expensive than sheets. Very interested in seeing the foam on the ceiling as I have yet to decide on how I deal with this area of heat loss. I don't want to hijack, so I'll post elsewhere. Sheets in my wall cavity would have slowed the job down a lot as I needed a lot of wall ties due to concerns about wind. For a benchmark, I have had quotes of between 2500 and 3000 euro for the foam on the ceiling. Not cheap, but I want to only do this job once, and properly. It is my (recent) 40th birthday present to myself.

Spray on foam for roof is quick & easy (maybe not cheap though?) but it could also be a fire hazard, so best check on that bit. We have it in 4 sheds at work, I actually tried to set it alight once, with a plumbers gas torch to see, and failed. Though I'd say any of them are volatile for the first few weeks while the VOCs are curing. It's not as cheap as sheets, but I simply haven't free time to cut and join sheets and the foam seals everything. Also closed cell is over-paintable. How do you smooth it out once cured?

Makes sense, just thinking of Grenfell type scenario's.

When sprayed on properly it goes on fairly smooth.

When sprayed on properly it goes on fairly smooth. I managed to use the poly way more efficiently than I expected so have 8 sheets spare. These I am going to slice into 25mm sheets and see how much of the roof I can cover.

I have the spray foam in my shop and love how well it works. Two benefits are that it seals the entire envelope air tight and for those that live in urban areas, it muffles a lot of the noise from power tools.
Heating cost for a 20' x40' shop are negligible.

Used some of the poly trimmed from the panel sheets to line the roller shutter. Improves acoustics and should be slightly warmer. And, yes, the shutter still opens :-)

Just for you, I got a fresh sample and tried to burn down the workshop! 😁 I remember when Manchester's first new trams were being delivered. "And have you got certificates to show the seats are non-flammable?" asked Her Majesty's Railway Inspector. "No, but buono," replied one of our Italian cousins, knowing they didn't do certification, only guesswork. "Get one out, let's see if we can burn it," HMRI instructed. So we did, and we couldn't, but the engineers face was priceless as the propane torch was wielded. Oh, and you didn't argue with HMRI, he was the railway equivalent of a rugby ref. There lay ruin.

What a difference a couple of zeros make. I was looking at stuff to decorate the new garage with and thought about Lotus themed banners. Not that expensive so I have bought a couple. I then discovered that for a few pounds more you can get your own design printed on PVC. I was thinking about 1500mm x 400mm and as I have used an online poster/book/calendar printing company a lot I decided to see what they offered.I was staggered to discover that their cost was over 7 times as much as what was available on eBay. So I wrote to them to express my surprise at the coast differential. They responded almost immediately offering, as I am a long term valued customer, a free banner. So I scrabbled around for a suitable photo and sent it off on Wednesday. The banner arrived yesterday and is not what I expected. Being an engineer I have always worked in mm, as do the sellers on eBay. However, this company work in cms and I didn't read their dimensions properly (I guess they didn't read my email properly either otherwise they would have picked up that I was talking about a banner 1500mm x 400mm). I now have to find a suitable space to hang it :-)

So for a banner 15 metres by 4 metres they were quite cheap really?

So did 1500 x 400 turn into 4000 x 1500 ? - ten times the area. For an Elan that would have been full size for the right shot
