Finally re torqued the head this morning along with a needed valve clearance adjustment afterwards. The procedure is meant to be done after 500 miles of driving, i think ive covered 200ish plus the flat out runs on the dyno. The clearances were so tight i couldn't get the feeler gauge back in after clamping down the head some more which is odd as its normally the other way around. Anyway it looks and sound fine, like an old sewing machine. I also picked up a spare wheel to replace by buckled front left, strangely when i went to remove the old one to take to the tyre shop it was flat. I cant see any damage to the tire at a quick glance so i suspect the inner tube has got a slight pinch somewhere. joys of running skinny tires i guess?

Yesterday I went to a classic car meet and briefly followed a Dauphine on the way back, I honestly don't know why I went upmarket those cheap popular family cars are more fun and look just as awesome. And lowered like yours? Oh my. Well done on the engine swap and sorting the teething issues that ensued, restecp!!

The cars too low with the lower profile tires on, i cant get it off the drive to see how it really looks

I remember our experiences with those 3 bolt Renault wheels. Back in the '70s we used to grasstrack race an R8S (It had been a workmate of my brother's pride & joy on the road... until he rolled it) on the standard wheels on the grasstracks buckling the wheels was a regular thing. On one occasion it took off over a bump and, on landing, the rear wheel folded round the caliper bringing things to a halt pretty quickly.

How did they get them on the machine? I have a tyre changer and a balancer but I don’t have any way of fitting a wheel without a hole in the middle!

It looked to be an adapter of sorts, located on the wheel using just the studs and then loaded onto the main shaft of the machine. I didn't get a good look due to the covid situation so rather than wander around and watch like i normally would (nosey git) i stayed outside.

And all has not gone well. The same wheel with the new inner tube on has gone down again. Took the wife out for a drive to Gloucester to pick up a clothes order and booked in for breakfast at the Dog at Over on the way home, noted how nice it was to drive with a lot less shaking (haven't gone over 50 yet though) and feeling great to get out and use it. On the way back it got abit wobbly, pulled over at a garage to find a tire nearly flat. Pumped it up and made it home so have whipped it off and dropped it off at the local garage again. Asked them to take a really good look over it as that twice its gone down now with 2 different tubes in. To note they didn't supply or fit the last inner tube they just balanced it up for me

He used to weld the Renault centres into Ford hoops to stop the wheel folding problem. Yo could only use the 1100cc Gordini engine in class 2 as the 1300cc was not in the Palgrave book. He did fit a 1300cc engine in for one event (as a cheat) and had to slow down as the speed difference was quite noticeable from the others in class.

When I had the wheels banded on the van the tire fitter had to grind all the weld splatter off the rim as tubes had to be fitted as every rim leaked.

The garage have called up and are cleaning everything off for me, turns out the inner tube that was fitted was too big? So has gotten chewed up. They have suggested trying it without a tube so ive agreed, they are going to clean everything, put some sealant on the edges and leave it over night as see if it looses any pressure. Fingers crossed.

So the tire held 32psi over night with no inner tube, ive fitted it back to the car and hopefully it stays air tight. Fingers crossed i can put some more miles on it this weekend.
