The 1957 "The Dope" Dauphine

Were really bust, but if i need to translate something , sent a DM.

I spent the day trying to get a good amount of work done and completed to hopefully start the car. I checked a few condensers I had in and picked one that wasnt faulty and fitted it to the dizzy I replaced the points on. I have spark but its weak as curse word. So I've ordered a new coil, condenser and some fresh battery cable to replace some that doesn't look to clever. Fingers crossed with it all replaced it should fire up nicely. I need to find a carb rebuild kit too as the accelerator pump decided to start spraying fuel out sideways.

Engine mounts turned up so they have been fitted and its feels solid as a rock, the old setup had 3 out of the 4 mounts ripped in half 🤦🏻‍♂️

On the list of things left to sort is an exhaust system and the gear linkage along with picking up the hoses for the cooling system. I'll probably move to that once I can prove the engine is sound.

Really shows how tiny that engine is, the Dauphine isn't exactly a large car and that engine still looks lost in that engine bay.

Cheers all, it took a few adjustments of the dizzy to get it to catch and run but pretty chuffed with that. Have done a fair bit of rewiring today and fitted a new coil but all seems to have worked. Need to work on the next list of things, Exhaust, cooling system, carb rebuild and a gear linkage are all on the list.

So not much has happened really, starting to get to the smaller jobs. Parts delivery's are now slowing me up. The new condensers turned up so I fitted one of those so all the major ignition components are fresh. The drive belt arrived also so that allowed me to knock up a tensioner for the dynamo. This was just the original bracket flipped and bent then bolted though one of the engine mounts/engine cradle. Sorted the throttle linkage out with some threaded bar and 2 8mm sockets. The radiator hasn't turned up yet.... apparently theres a delay at the warehouse. I've removed all the old cooling system and bolted some aluminium channel to the gearbox. This will allow me to drill holes and mount the newer rad with its pegs and rubber bushes. I've also pigeon pooped the gear selector rod to a plate I made that then bolts to the 4 speed gearbox selector. It's not pretty, I'm not proud of it but I did it upside down whilst fitted to the car. Seems to select all the gears nicely though. It's meant to have some rubber bushes in but mine were ruined so its solid mounted currently. I'll add it to the sort later list. The next major milestone will be the cooling system completed as I should then be able to test drive it. Give me another couple of weeks and we will be rolling 👍🏻

Cheers its getting there. I also need to go borrow some banded 15s off a mates Renault 8 to see how it looks on them soon. Every time i look at it, it looks the same as when i brought it back home, but have spent ages working on it. Next to noting visually to account for the time and effort lol

Ive got a couple of big box's here donated from a friend that look similar to the above pic, they just look huge when near the car. Unfortunately my phone keeps corrupting the pictures so i can upload any to show what i mean. The old dope exhaust is on for now but ill probably focus on the exhaust once the rest has proven itself. Had a text from DHL to say my rad will be here Monday. Ive just been out and tightened the rear hub nuts and fitted the wheels, popped the speedo cable in the box (though i don't think its the right one) and everything else is tightened up as far as i can tell. To have a test drive i need to fit the carb gasket set when it gets here, fit and the water system and fill the gearbox with oil. There's a list of other niggles but they are the majors to see if it all works properly
