Adey If you cannot get any original style engine mount rubbers you can use some Landrover round type buy just adding some holes in the original mounting plates. Great progress she will look so good when she's back together that is an awesome idea, something you know has worked before? any idea how thick they are? Let me pull them out and measure them up and see if they look like they will work for you. 👍🏻

anderzander cheers for measuring up, i took the plunge and ordered some v8 ones you first said about. If they are too small i will drop you a message and try those one cheers (y) Right a fair bit has happened this week with parts and such and a whole lot of F**ks have been thrown about. So initially it was meant to be a straight drop in fit engine and box conversion, done by many and easy as pie...... Picked up my newer 4 speed gearbox with the matching universal joints a few days ago, i was also gifted a complete but seized up 956cc engine, great as i can use lots off it for the engine i need to build up including the head, water pump and fuel pump from it. The plan was to build the rear crossmemeber up with the gearbox and all attached parts and slap it back in the car, clearing some space for my engine build shenanigans. First hitch, the original driveshafts are 10 spline and the newer gearbox has 20 spline outputs and UJ's. So i asked around and see what i can do, i was told i could fire in some r8 shafts and all would be good. Did another trip this morning and picked up a crank, an 1108cc bottom end a few odds and sods and a pair of r8 half shaft. Get home think here we go. No go! The r8 shafts are 20mm longer than the dauphine shafts. Now i want to cry. It turns out the later dauphine had a 20 spline shaft in the length i need but finding them is going to be a pain, i am now hunting high and low for the correct parts, the other option is to make some 20/10 UJ's using the 4 i have kicking around so that the 20 spline output cant mate to my 10 spline original shafts. Its never an easy straight swap is it lol

Bummer on the shafts. Any chance of shortening them if alternatives can’t be found? Might be easier and quicker than locating the right shafts.

with the engagement on the splines i think the ones i have would require a cut and shut job rather than material just being removed off the end, so a possibility i guess?

I may of found some shorter shafts, waiting to hear back from a few people to see what is kicking around. Definitely found one based on the measurements.

Please forgive my ignorance never having worked on any old Renault vehicles but is it not possible to swap the yokes that fit the box with the ones from your original shafts?

Are the UJ’s the same other than the spline count ? Could you split and mix them?

The coupling part inside would require some machining one is bigger than the other, if i cant find some shafts of the correct size i will be dropping them off to a machine shop i think.

Have you measured the overall length of both shafts including the joint? the ten spline joint looks longer....

the joints themselves are pretty much identical in height. the 10 spline with the joint is still shorter.
I have paid for a pair of 20 spline dauphine shafts this morning, (also available in 2 lengths) everyone that replied with the correct shafts on leboncoin don't want to post to the UK unfortunately so as long as the chap has measured them correctly I have at least 1 of the half shafts I need. Hopefully he gets them out quickly and I get them this week.
Next for me is to start pulling the engines apart to make 1 good one from about 3, what could go wrong 😂

Head came up quite well with a jet wash so I think it's pretty much ready to go now. Ive checked the head with a straight edge and it's very good so should bolt up perfectly fine. Water pump is free and spinning but seems a bit crappy so I'll try and source a new pump for assembly. Next on the list is to drop the crank out of the 1108cc engine. Its fitted with a 7 bolt crank and I need a 5 bolt to use with the correct flywheel. Luckily I have good condition 5 bolt crank here ready to go 👍🏻. I love this type of mishmash building using spare parts from everywhere.

The renault parts bin is a fantastic place, the parts in alot of them can be swapped about and fit the same over 30+years of engines. You can see the evolutions over the years. Probably a massive cost saving exercise. The basis of my engine was used from the 60s right through to early 2000's and even shared with other manufacturers including volvo and ford in other countries.

It makes me giggle you spent ages sorting all the faults out and getting it running nice and then tear it all out, Just like I would do!
I think Renault still do the parts swap thing, trouble is you don't find out until you come to fix it and your back at the auto factors 3 times changing bits!
