The 1957 "The Dope" Dauphine

A little peeve I had with the car when I got it back was the indicators being wired on a toggle switch (sidelights are too). The original stalk had snapped off, a common issue and replacements are available but I decided to re wire the switch in and bodge it with an old screwdriver. Its nowhere near a mint car so no need to drop €100 on the replacement part. So switch re wired, remaining part of the stalk drilled to the correct size needed and then glued in place. It works so it's a win 👍🏻

might even paint the end old English white or something so it blends in

Manual choke done, I got hold of the longest push/pull choke cable I could find but it's still didnt reach from the rear to the front of the car and to the underside of the dash, I have instead fitted it beside the handbrake and its works very well. Hooked up to my diy auto choke delete. The bigger engine and carb will require a manual choke also so its future proofing it.

Another small win today. Its had additional switches and stuff added for sidelights and the indicators. The indicators i sorted a few days ago so today I decided to take a look at the head light wiring. I was getting poor and inconsistent readings from my multimeter. I had had a read back through my thread and saw that I noted one headlight unit needed some solder, i never got round to doing it...... So I gave it a little blob and one of the sidelights dimly lit and went back out. Tested it all to earth and it was fine but found all the feeds in a junction terminal crusty and rusty. Hit them with some sandpaper to get a good connection and boom all the headlights are working well (as well as 6v can be lol) I now have sidelights, dipped and high beam working 😁

yeah i know what you mean, don't plan on driving in the dark too much, would get better vision strapping some candles to the roof

I thought I'd have a crack at an area of the car that had alot of surface rust. Its quite common for this to rot through completely though mine was just alot of surface grot. In the garage i had a por-15 kit that i purchased years ago for this car and never used it. There was meant to be enough to do the whole underside and the inside so i had plenty. I scraped everything in there with a wire brush to remove any loose paint and metal. Sent the child in to sweep it up. Cleaned it all with the Por-15 Degreaser, washed down, Then prepped with Por-15 Metal Prep, washed down and then i roughly masked up the area to paint with Por-15 Paint. Goes on well and ive put on 2 coats so far. Should add a few more years of protection, the underside was done by the previous owner along with the inside of the car after all the repair work. (y)
