So the electrolysis on the bonnet is going ok and I hope to start repairs on it this week but meantime I've returned to the engine-stand I was making.
As usual with me there's a back-story....
So I want my engine stand/cradle to be all-encompassing. Like it'll include the radiator, ignition-coil, fuel-tank etc etc.
Well many many years ago (probably when I was getting all the easy bits powder-coated) I unsoldered the rusty 'straps' from my radiator and due to them being in a right state at the bottom they didn't get painted.
As I want the rad to be included on my 'rig' I had to dig it out and see about fixing the straps (ie the side support brackets) as they will be needed to mount the rad in my frame.
The straps seems to have 5 locating-points between them. I know the top two tabs are used to hang the assy from the engine-bay 'bulkhead'. Don't know what the one on LHS is for and can't see anywhere on the car that the bottom tow tabs would bolt to.
I went to the Riverside Museum in Glasgow yesterday to look at their Imp engine/transaxle static display which was great but I had already sort of worked out that the bottom tabs are for a big stoneguard fitted in some circumstances. It seems per the parts-list that this wasn't common and I'm pretty sure my car never had one.
At the museum I also noted how they had mounted their cutaway engine. The was a bracket under the sump and only bolted to a handy bit on the top of the block. I soon realised however that was where the alternator/dynamo rear brackets goes so that's no good and the sump one wouldn't be viable unless you had longer studs or something
So last week I spent quite a bit time repairing the straps. Apart from my welding I'm pleased with how it all turned out and I've not yet welded on the bottom tabs. I want to spot-weld them (rather than plug-weld) but if I don't have the stoneguard there's no real point putting them on.
However they would be good for mounting the rad securely in my frame.
Anyway I have lots of pretty similar pics of the straps at various stages but don't think I posted what they were like originally. I did the usual rust-stripping then sprayed them with Halfords Zinc Primer and have to say I'm impressed by it. I've used all sorts of paints in the past and can see things rusting up again due to the constant wet weather in this curse word country but these haven't got a spec on them.
My next step will be to solder the straps back on to the radiator-tanks. Watched some YouTube vids on this and it seems to be a case of flux, plumbers acid-core solder and a propane torch.
I had a look at the engine and stands that I've made so far and realised that with the oil-filter assy bolted on I need more ground-clearance. I was planning on putting feet on anyway so today I cut 2 'legs' at 2 1/2" long. These will be welded on next post and than I can start designing the bit to hold the radiator

rusty radiator straps

rusted tab next to where it came from

pretty sure this came from here

Museum Imp static display. orange arrow to engine-bay bulkhead (x2); brown - no idea; indigo (x2) for stoneguard

stoneguard tabs used to mount Museum radiator

engine supported under sump at Museum

other Museum engine has support-bracket at generator rear mounting-point

straps de-rusted and primed need repairs at bottom

separating parts of the one remaining tab

copy of tab made

bottom of straps repaired. welds need more work

stoneguard tabs not needed despite being copied

repaired straps fit pretty well

bottom tank a bit dented here. will need fettling before soldering

this side is better

oil-filter assy fitted hangs lower than engine

legs to be added to bottom of frames
