How thick is your floor? I was thinking of 6mm for the off road project and maybe 4mm for the straight line car. Maybe a bit too thick ? 1.5mm - If doing Historic road rallies like bizzo does in the G15 I would bond a Kelvar composite to it around 3mm - If going off-road I would bond a 1.2mm sheet of stainless to it.

The steering column upper and lower sections have been given a rub over with a fine scuff pad and given a few coats of satin to tidy them up. Rod ends and bushes have arrived. Unfortunately the rod end spacers are 1/2 bore x 1/2 wide and I need them 5/16 wide - problem is that the 5/16 wide are about 3 times the cost - Taking 3/16 off would not be much of a deal, but unfortunately holding them in a chuck is due to the taper form they have. Will have to figure something out or pay up.

Can you make an expanding centre stud to go into the chuck and grip on the ID of the bore, then take light cuts to length?

Have done this a work a few times, turn a bar down so it's a snug fit on the ID, drill and tap a hole in the end only using a first (taper) tap than split the bar with hacksaw cuts so it will spring out when a bolt is screwed in. Works like a charm.

chassis is looking brilliant, what a milestone ! i must say they cream paint seems quit resilient to nearby mig welding heat ? p.s dulux mini glosser rollers, complete game changer (compared to foam!) Cheers HB - 2K Epoxy primer - Even where it discolours it behaved the same sanding down and not flaking off - hardy stuff. Had a look at Dulux Glosser which seems to cover a wide range of types - do you mean the Glosser Microfibre? I have a number of other chassis so will give them a go. This one I will just use up the remaining Harris foam rollers I have. That's it ddc glosser microfiber sleeves

Whilst degreasing the chassis for bonding the floor on I found a couple of areas where I had missed for rivets. Pushing 400 rivets now. Degreased and ready for the floor to be fixed on. 90% of a tube of Tiger Seal The game of riveting then commenced which was made so much easier with the new addition to the tool box. Remainder of the tube was used to provide additional sealing to the perimeter Also managed to get a first coat on the backstays yesterday Next job is some further paint over the sealer and then flip it over.

Cheers - I am quite pleased with how its going. Took a while but got 12 done - needed to modify the mount tool half way through as half the batch of spacers had a larger diameter and slid on rather than needing to be tapped home. The 1st tap advice was golden Spacers were 7/16" not 1/2" wide so it was less of a chore just taking an 1/8" off. If having to do it again I would under cut the slotted part at the end of slots to make it expand easier

I was about to ask if you had an air operated riveter but a battery one is even neater!

Sealed and double sealed That should prevent and moisture creeping between the chassis and the floor - Once that is all dry it will get given a heavy coat of wax or four. Unlike a nice FE RWD car this nice flat alloy floor will not get constantly misted with engine and gearbox oil. Need to go look in the loft for some carpet offcuts to wrap round the stands the chassis is sitting on to protect the chassis better than the foam that's on it at the moment.

spent the last week reading the whole thread wow!! this is some project canβt wait to see it on the road that kit is back on ebay a little cheaper It has been dragging on for a bit... In my defence, I have been occasionally distracted. Fair play for reading it through. As for seeing on the road - yep you and me both, plus a few others I did notice that the seller of the Old Litton Corse S had dropped it a small amount - It's still at over twice what it's worth though - IMHI

Are you going to plate/paint the spacers ? I spy a proper shifter lurking in the corner

I spy a proper shifter lurking in the corner They will get a coat of satin Black prior to complete assembly and sprayed with a clear protection wax if I remember. The old copper head - Given to me with a load of other tools when I bought a G27 and Fury in a bereavement sale.

I meant the Bahco (commonly known as shifters in the places I worked) not the soft adjustment tool although I did notice it was an old one, I have one in the garage, copper one side & rawhide the other Bahco looks like an older style one as well.π
