As interesting as that is, it has too many cylinders to provide the sound track that is an essential part of the Strato's experience. Thanks for the thoughts but its the quirky old C27A Honda Lumps for me. I have spoken with Anthony at www.fastroadcars.co.uk - and 3 new 44 IDF's - decided to keep it sensible - and the rebuild parts for the 40's are now on their way to me - I have offset the expense by cancelling my sky subscription which will also get me out in the garage more - - That or more time for threads on here! As the coolant pipes are in place it was time to sort out the radiator mounts. Took me a flaming age to get to this stage. - Still not 100% convinced its correct have a few other checks to make before the welds are completed. Need to make a fixture for this lot soon to appear in a flowbench thread coming to a board near you soon.

that front end doesn't look especially crash resistant, are you planning to beef it up a bit?

Not a problem as I will not be sitting in that bit - I will be sitting in the box behind it with all the large box sections and CDS tubing - that bit up front will be doing the task of a deformable structure to sacrice itself in an impact - there is additional alloy skins but that's about it.

Lets hope it's never crashed anyway, so you never have to find out.

Lets hope it's never crashed anyway, so you never have to find out. Indeed, and anyway it has a a great deal more crash protection than my Ducati ever had - Crash resistance is fultile ... sorry, relative. Just had a 7 of 9 vision and drifted off there for a second.

While you have the flow bench back out do you want any more webers to play with? (He said grinning, as if you didn't have enough to do)

While you have the flow bench back out do you want any more webers to play with? (He said grinning, as if you didn't have enough to do) I keep falling over a box with a bored out 38 DGAS and bits of other Weber's in it. - I will find five minutes to assemble and stick it on the bench so I can drop it off at some point. But to answer your question - yes

I think I might have a couple more, maybe ... Be interesting to see what the difference is in flow rate between a modded DGV and a standard DGS too.

Did a bit yesterday, completing the rad mounting welding up a few more holes and dropping the rack in to check the column length with the new mountings. Also took the engine out again after sorting the exhaust. I had a look at the cams and can confirm that they are very long duration and that the lifters are behaving like solid ones so it has the potential to be a bit different. Anthony from Fastroadcars has advised that the IDF shipment is packed and will be on it's way to me tomorrow. Not feeling it today (Sunday) so had a tidy up and cut the grass. The laptop also fell over yesterday afternoon and required a full clean up and restart afresh and is now working better than it has for a good long while. With the recent progress on the Strato's I have started a list - previously there was so much to do, a list was pretty futile, but as good progress has been made recently it's now beneficial. A bloody lot to do mind you but it's nice to have a list of jobs to methodically strike through.

A large box of treats arrived today And if we compare the old and the new I think we can establish that the new wins But the old should see some significant improvement with all of the rebuild parts fitted - the new chokes especially. Yesterday evening I had a further look at the cams whilst I removed the cam cover backing plates - it looks like the reason the timing marks to not line up is that the cams have two locations for the timing pin and the ones used throw the gears out from the old timing marks - I need to confirm this as I am not 100% convinced this is the case. Another small win I had was with the front pulley - The Grasser did not run a front pulley as the electrics were constant loss so no alternator - I will need a charging system in the car so I need a front pulley - I could not find the one from the old engine that was water damaged and thought I had suffered a senior moment and thrown it out - worry not as I have found it stored in a box with other useful parts so I can get on with making up a bracket to relocate the Alt from the top of the engine to on the side of the block. Double win is that the pulley as a small diameter Vee pulley groove that will suit the Vee drive on the little Denso Kubota alt and not over rotate it. Anyone local to me with a 32mm former on a conduit bender as I need to bend the alloy coolant tubes? If not I may have to try annealing and kiln dried sand method.

Continuing with the mantra - whatever to remove from the car put it back lighter - I am making some modifications to the intake manifold, that is as well as having the ports enlarged to suit the 44IDFs - Hopefully as there is a bigger hole running down the middle of a 44IDF than a 40IDF we have a lightness win there as well.

And the other side. Once they have been ported to suit the 44's I will remove a bit more material from here and there to make them look a little less agricultural. And that was about all the progress made today as I have sold my second G15 project to a friend of mine so was sorting through boxes to try and identify what parts went with what car. Swapping cars on the trailer and them moving them around the garden and cutting the grass - I seem to report on having to do this far too often. One less project means that I am getting closer to having too many projects on the go at once rather than far too many! Yes I have to admit it that you can have too many projects....

Whilst the lucky ones were enjoying themselves at Goodwood I looked at the list of jobs and decided to make an effort to remove as many as possible whilst the sun shone. First off I found another area on the manifold that could be ventilated so I added 8 more voids. Definitely lighter. Whilst I was in the mood for drilling holes in things I made some ventilated webs and braces. And also found some anti-holes Some careful trimming of a piece of 38mm CDS And then break out the welder

Got a bit done yesterday in the sunshine No welding but bit of grinding down prep and cleaning up. One of the jobs on the list was to remove the front tie rod from the front suspension - these use a ball joint affair with a retaining plate and a couple of bolts which I am sure looked a great idea when first installed and probably did up quite easily the bolts are now rusty and quite inaccessible but after a while I got them free. Looks like a Buzzy had decided that the open end of the tube looked like a great place for home - No one was in when I knocked. Turned the chassis upside down and gave it a clean. My unfinished welding is acceptable as, well, I am not finished - but original unfinished welding is not and it's all over the car.
