Also Speedway Rider Peter "PK" Karlsson - Chassis is coming along and a bit of energy and motivation returning. Still a way off your work and posting frequency but its the bar to aim for.

New arrival to the family - 1 day old. - Ella And this Red thing arrived a couple of weeks back creating all sorts of havoc. 13 years between those two and the old one is less than impressed. - Poppy Trying to get stuff done on the car has been quite difficult what with everything else. However, today was a milestone as I have got the chassis fully painted. Still requires a bit of second coating to do here and there, along with chasing down the odd missed bit but that will happen as I find them. I also picked up the blasted and powder coated wishbones so they all look spiffing as well. Back stays still need painting - best not forget those. After the paint has been given a while to fully cure, the chassis will be flipped again so the new floor panel can be offered up and trimmed. There will then follow lots of drilling and deburring.

Did you paint it with a roller, DS?
It looks mighty fine.
I have bought some 2" and 4" rollers to paint my bottom with, when the time comes.

Nice additions to the family! Assuming that a fair chunk will appear to happen quickly as a lot of ‘assembly’ rather than fabrication for a bit. Fantastic build, thanks for sharing. James

Did you paint it with a roller, DS? It looks mighty fine. I have bought some 2" and 4" rollers to paint my bottom with, when the time comes. 4" gloss foam roller - They do not last too long though as the paint attacks the foam and it ends up "baggy" and then tears it leaves a texture finish that you can just make out in this shot. I wanted a repairable and repeatable finish as there will be further brackets and additions to the chassis. Then again, when its all done not much of it will actually be visible. What I should have bought are some velour or nylon resin rollers. - A note for the future. Nice additions to the family! Assuming that a fair chunk will appear to happen quickly as a lot of ‘assembly’ rather than fabrication for a bit. Fantastic build, thanks for sharing. James Hoping that it will be mostly just assembly work now. There will still be some additional odds and ends for some of the ancillary items, oil coolers and the like, and I am still sitting on the fence regarding a heating system. None of my hobby cars have ever had them fitted but it may make it more saleable having that sort of creature comfort.

I have had a chat with the Doc and she tells me that the key is to not make a thing out of it as this tends to encourage him to do it more - better to pretend not to care or notice - It's how she stopped him peeing on the roses.... Oh, that and the threat of euthanasia!

Oh, that and the threat of euthanasia! The Doc's speciality is making your demise look like an accident. Good to see the progress on the chassis....and I am still in awe of your welding beads! Any old fool can weld new thick metal... He is good though, isn't he?

Good to see the progress on the chassis....and I am still in awe of your welding beads! Any old fool can weld new thick metal... He is good though, isn't he? You are both too kind - New clean 1.5mm steel is nice and easy to weld, and when you have the welder set up right it will buzz it in nicely time after time. A good mask pays for itself because if you cannot see what your are welding its never going to go well. It also helps not to be lying on your back or welding through a letter box. When things are stacked in your favour to that extent you get to occasionally lay a weld down like a YouTube pro. Oh and plastic cars for the win

Today has seen many many boring hours - Not dull boring - drilling boring Way back when the chassis was cracking and falling apart under the previous ownership, the rear part of the floor had been removed so that some very poorly designed repairs could be bodged. The new floor panel is longer to replace that chopped out part. The old panel had been retained to act as a template for a lot of the rivet holes - especially the ones along the sills. New holes were needed in the new rear engine support member - This was the first one that go the double row of rivets that the floor should have had. Originally the floor had only been fixed with rivets at the extremities of all the box sections - if fixed in that manner it's nowhere near as strong as being fixed zig zag fashion - double row vastly reduces the span between the fixings on opposite members Every large box section got additional zig zag fixings. The central spine that holds the coolant pipes has also been switched to double row and all the lateral rows of rivets have had additional fixings placed between the existing because the span was wider than they should have been. I have more than doubled the number of rivets in the floor - This time it will also been bonded to provide additional strength as well as fully sealing the floor. There will also be a sealing bead around the full perimeter and the rivets are of the sealed type. I am now just working through deburring every hole - that's both sides of the alloy and both sides of chassis where I can get access. Thankfully most of the ones in the steel have not burred.

Continued with the deburring - 340 ish rivet holes - both sides + about 70 in the steel - 750! I also put the nibblers purchased from duncanmartin to good use today, they made short easy work of trimming the floor. The build manual tells me I now have around 300-400 hours to go !

Cheers HB - 2K Epoxy primer - Even where it discolours it behaved the same sanding down and not flaking off - hardy stuff. Had a look at Dulux Glosser which seems to cover a wide range of types - do you mean the Glosser Microfibre? I have a number of other chassis so will give them a go. This one I will just use up the remaining Harris foam rollers I have.

How thick is your floor? I was thinking of 6mm for the off road project and maybe 4mm for the straight line car. Maybe a bit too thick ?
