That's the one I have. I welded 70mm box top and bottom, and linked together to stiffen. Before that it mainly splayed the rollers when you tightened them up. Now it's rock solid. I do like that the pics in the advert of beads being put in things are different bead rollers or ones that are modified yeah i was just looking at those going "oooh metz" then, "oh hangon"

A step closer to running the engine old school with vacuum atomised fuel and clockwork sparks. I had found a Luminition optical trigger amongst a box of other parts so I dug out the ignition test rig to see if it was good - turns out it was. So, as the test unit was out on the bench it seemed like the ideal opportunity to test the clockwork C27A no ECU dizzy that I had and see if I could figure the wiring. Took an educated guess and it worked first time Sparks sorted. Next to grab the IDF's and give the 40's an overhaul.

That dizzy is really nicely made, the main shaft runs between two precision ball bearings and the advance plate also runs on a ball race- ! There is zero play in anything, wonderfully built. Tested another Honda ignition pack before putting the test unit away. Sorted through the shed and found the IDF's - They were pretty dirty so I put them to one side and went for a browse on Ebay for ultrasonic cleaners.

Close enough. Finished up the welding, not my neatest work but if it ever becomes visible then the intake has exploded out of the vee and I would imagine some slightly untidy welding will be the nicest thing left to look at. Next job is deciding what to do with all the additional pipe connections on the water manifold as I only need the main flow, a small water bleed connection and a feed/expansion connection.

do you have a suitable radiator? I spotted that Jeep XJ ones are great for small wide spaces and thanks to all the off road market they seem really cheap for what they are Ebay link

I have the original bespoke rad - it has some cooling fin corrosion - but otherwise is complete if a little heavy - I will probably get it copied in alloy eventually - I think that the LDV Convoy rads are also a common fit.

Bought a cheap ultrasonic from eBay went for a 10L version, that I measured would take a whole IDF/DCOE body, for £125 - Must admit that I was not expecting anything great from it at that price point but must admit that the results are pretty good. I am using some of this cleaner I had on hand diluted as instructions for heavy grease and soiling at 100ml per 5 L Which brought the carb bodies up pretty well I have also put some Imp and Honda oil filter bodies and parts through and the Imp ones come up really well. Next is trip down the shed to dig out the box containing the rebuild parts for the IDF's - Some clean solution in the Ultrasonic bath and rebuild one carb whilst the other is fizzing away.

Just in case you don't know it..
You can put a smaller container with smaller parts in it inside the cleaner and fill the cleaner tub with water to save on degreaser/whatever you are using to clean. Also works backwards if you can fit a taller tub inside a smaller cleaner to clean bigger parts!

It has been a lot of LBDA for the sunshine And some making of lists for various purchases - I have been on the fence with regard to wheels and tyre types and sizes and still not really decided. getting a price from a company in Italy and then see where we are. Tyre wise I have been looking at the Nangkang AR-1 as they do a 275 width for the rear in 15" that will work for me gear ratio wise giving me a reasonable overall ratio in 5th. May just bite the bullet and order a set that commits me to either getting it done before they go out of date or getting some stupid size wheels and modified arches for the G27...... If brave/stupid enough the Grasstracker cams will run to well over 8000 - which will exceed the UK legal limit in second.

Hmmmmmm. The tyre diameter and wall depth is going to be a bit on the small side - This is just a 195/50/15 - that happens to have the same wall depth and diameter as the 275/35/15. People could be forgiven for thinking it was a stage rally car with those arch gaps The Pirelli 305/35/15 is slightly better but quite a bit more expensive. The next job on the list whilst I am waiting for some silicon hoses to arrive is the gear linkage - The original is this rather sorry looking assembly made up of steering UJ parts and shafts and bits of poorly welded scrap and parts off the original 827. We will have to manufacture something a little lighter and more presentable.

A bit of messing about with wheels today before I press go on the order. These are the current 235/40/17's on the 8 x 17 ET20 TSW Hockenheim wheels but fitted with 50mm of spaces to simulate the 10 x 15 ET0 It's at the limit ...
