head is al back together now. whilst the engine was out I thought now would be a good time to reweld the alternator bracket. painted the engine block and sump cause why not. all the pistons cleaned and fitted with new rings. smoothed out all the scratches so hopefully it will all be good.

And a little throwback to the summer when the car was running with the mx5 engine. People were quite interested

Looking good. I'd guess the mx5 engine is quite a bit lighter thant the herald lump and that would improve the handling loads. Dan

It's all together now! It even moved outside under its own power, sadly since the lack of gearbox oil i couldn't test drive it...

Are you still using the herald distributors advance curve? The mx5s high compresdion dohc 16v engine trying to run the curve of a cast iron low compression ohv push rod engine wont be happy. 3 options i can see 1 You could try to recurve the lucas dizzy as i guess the specs for the mx5 would be easily available 2 fit a 123 dizzy as that has a programmable or selectable Curve. 3 or the way I've gone and go for a micro or megasquirt, you should have most of the sensors already on the MX5 engine Dan

I'm currently running a custom build distributor from H&H ignition they've build in the curve of the mx5 engine. So that isn't a problem any more. It is a problem that two of the carbs had ripped membrane so the piston and needle didn't rise anymore, would explain a lot of the problems.....

They are also easier to tune since the mixture screw is on the top instead on the bottom back side...

Well it finally runs again. At first it had fuel starvation at high rpm even after tuning the carbs to the most rich position... So took the carbs of to check what kind of needles and jets were in it. The seller told me they came of a honda 500cc bike but originally they were fitted to a 1200cc yamaha, my guess was the needles and jets were replaced for smaller ones which the are... Me not wanting to wait even longer and pay a lot for some new jets and needles, just re-drilled the jets from 1.25mm to 1.5mm wich made a great difference in how it runs. I'm now able to rev the car again it's only holding in a bit but the next step is to make the needles more tapered.

It seems like the car just doesn't want to work... I thought today would be a good time to take it for a test drive. And it didn't start of course, it sometimes looked like the engine had so much compression the starter couldn't push trough it. And currently all it does is arm the starter solenoid and all the led dashboard lights turn of. (with two batteries connected). Any ideas?

It works! Woooh and it's scary fast for what it is. Just needs some tuning since it still a bit lean. And there's oil dripping from the front crankcase seal....

Well since the snow kept laying on the street, I thought now is my time to terrorize the local parkinglot. Weirdly enough my ignition had jumped back in timing so after adjusting that i was on my way sliding down the streets . And i must say it's really a handful on summertires and much more power than stock. It did really well at doing figure eights and probably annoying everyone in the area with loud exhaust noise.
