More front subframe preparation. Now fully stripped ready for etch primer and satin black top coat. Got creative with the CAD and tin snips Ready to box the flimsy top wishbones Just tacked on for now, I'll run round with the Tig to pool everything together nice and neat, avoiding distortion. Next job was to file the top wishbone mounts in my order to gain a little negative camber to help turn in Bottom modded, top standard. As standard hex head bolts are used, but by using cap heads and filing the slots, you can bring everything in a couple of mm gain a degree or so of camber. Every little helps!

In other news, I Picked up a 160 VVC cylinder head.
The 1.4, 1.6 and 1.8 cooking K series all use the same head.
The VVC models use a better ported head with bigger valves (31.5/26 compared to 27.5/24) but use a split inlet cam with an hydraulic eccentric adjuster that varies cam duration from 220 degrees to 295.
You can get a VHPD head that has fixed cams but VVC sized valves, but they are very rare.
If you watch videos on how it works, it is amazingly clever, much more so than vtec.
The problem is I want to run bike Carbs and Megajolt. It is possible to lock the vvc system in a fixed place, but where is the fun in that!
I'm planning to run the VVC in an 'off' or 'on' switched stage (ie normal and sport mode), but either having a manual switch, or having the Megajolt giving me a switched output at say 4000rpm.
Should be interesting, and an entertaining way of testing the transaxles strength.....

Had a day off today, so thought I'd have a go at trying to make some real progress on the K-oupe. Looking a little sorry for itself Starting on the inner wing bottom Tank out, hello big hole! Out with the magic sparkly stick Next, be nice to have a platform to hang the wings on Ta Daaa! Bit of under body paint to finish off A quick splash of etch primer and a dash of colour.... Tonight she sleeps.....

Yes, I was speaking to Dave Andrews about this. I like carbs though (much to DA's dismay!), so for now we will run it manually.

More boring welding done today Chop chop Weld weld Etch prime, paint. Repeat Tried on the kit briefly to see how much work is need. - lots! Narrow track comedy! Front requires plenty chopping to allow it to sit right Line of best fit I reckon!

Received a new 120L5 flywheel amongst other bits from Skudman. Drilled the spacer and flywheel so that all good. JikovRon made a good point, the 8v fabia flywheel would be a good doner, it already has 6 holes that need minor slotting. There is a 4mm height difference though, and the rwd release bearing isn't directly compatible with the pressure plate fingers. Still, it's a good point. Not much weight difference either, both are around 7.2kg

That door gap isn't just massive, it's all sorts of wrong. Still, with the work that's happened so far I have no doubt you'll make it right in no time. Looking forward to more updates on your progress.

More progress. Stuck on the rear wing and tried the engine lid. Er, needs a bit of hinge fettling! Better! Not looking too bad, lots of fettling needed! Then removed the false bulkhead from the bay, to make room for some POWAAAAH!

That's a really smart kit, fitment issues aside. It looks like someone bothered to actually design it with the shape of the car in mind.

Hi Kieran, I appreciate this thread was last active some time ago, but if you read this, can you let me know where exactly you ordered the body kit from? I've found a couple of companies but they sell it in the region of £800, and I don't think it can be just the inflation over the last 2 yrs... Cheers, Szabi
