Looking at all the different trackers that are on Amazon and e-bay . Has anybody actually bought and fitted one , and can recommend........ I keep my Monza in a lock up over the winter, and only pop over now and again too visit but for piece of mind I would like some sort of device that would alert me and give location details if my car was moved or started up...... any thoughts on this would be greatly welcomed

I've not used one myself.
All I would think is if it need a permanent power supply and your not seeing your car much will you want to leave the battery connected?
Or if the battery went flat it would be no use to you.
It is a good idea, I'd be interested on what you buy

I'd wanna know everything. When it drove out my street, what direction it took, how fast.. everything.
Thankfully, the police will be able to tell me.

(3 months) and I can keep track of it using my mobile... but like I said they all make these claims . someone on here must have something installed..

I have one fitted to my Volvo (supplied and fitted by my Sponsors) it does tracking and full telematics, but most importantly it warns me via text if the car moves more than a couple of meters and I can monitor it's position on the internet.

A friend of a friend had has works van stolen recently complete with 40 years of tools. The hardwired tracker was shut off after about 20 minutes. As he now knows the hardwired ones are easy to disable so go for something with a totally independent power supply that is electrically isolated from the rest of the vehicle.

Is there not something like a motion sensor you can plug in which goes across the front of the garage , and then notifies you ? Then you could have it plugged into the mains and you would know if anyone has entered .

Mate has trackers fitted to his caravans as they are in storage 10+ miles away. They will run for around a month on the leisure battery before he gets a message saying battery low. His new caravan has solar panels on the roof and they are enough to stop the messages. One time he had the old caravan at home and I was wiring up the motor mover so had to disconnect the battery. Within minutes he had a text from tracker service informing him what had happened. He forgot to "log off" or whatever when he collected the caravan from storage one time and as soon as he started to move a few metres he got a text. With not having an opportunity to pull over and ring the tracker company there was another text then an urgent phone call to inform him caravan was on the move and where it was / direction it was heading. Quite impressive.

We tried an eBay tracker in a company van. Total waste of time. Never got it working properly. Don't waste your time. Went the expensive route and had a Uk based tracking company install a professional, read, expensive set up, in all our vans. Amazing how reliable they are until a bank holiday weekend ,when they cease functioning.... Seems the Internet is a good source of information on how to override fitted systems without disturbing any wiring....

Failing the tracker idea what about making it as difficult as possible to steal? Removing all 4 wheels and taking them home with you, remove the carbon brush from the middle of the dizzy cap and remove the steering wheel.

Taking the rotor arm out of the distributor was a popular 'anti theft' precaution when I were a lad. Small enough to pop in your pocket and take with you, it was unlikely a potential thief would be carrying the correct replacement!
Before the days of airbags, I have seen steering wheels replaced by quick-release race car versions so owners could take the wheel with them while the car was parked. You did look a bit odd walking into the pub carrying a steering wheel though...
