Not to savvy when it comes to electrical stuff.
With the arrival of a new baby the other half has banned me from buying anymore car stuff and the new family mover that replaced my mk2 could do with a little more bass for when the mini human isn't aboard.
i do have a couple of little PC sound systems that are not being used (the little 2.1 systems) and was wondering if one could be hooked up without being a fire hazard? and if so how i did a google search but nothing really helped much.
any help ?

Its alot of hassle for little gain, you are probably better off just lying to the wife and buying some decent gear without her knowing. But if you seriously want to do it you will need to fit a 3.5mm jack plug to your headunit speaker output. (assuming your pc speakers have this connection? And again, assuming they are active speakers, they are going to require a power source, a cheap inverter will sort this.

Actually thats wrong! You won't be able to put the amplified source from your headunit directly into the speakers. Use a line level converter. Then plug one of these in.

I'm running a Creative 4.1 subwoofer (minus speakers) in my Porsche, it's compact and sounds great! I just run a typical sub wire arrangement to it, have the power feed run through a relay which is triggered by the headunit coming on, similar to a regular sub and amp setup really. Sub lead kits are under a tenner on eBay and a level convertor is under a fiver if you need one.

I would give it a go but not expect anything.
The biggest issue with the car is reflections and the resonant frequency of the car itself, something you don't really have to contend with at home. Home audio is way more easier to do than car audio.
If the system sounds fine I'd try and find a cheap secondhand sub TBH. I may actually have one for sale for not alot of cash (read £15).
