Progress! New injectors fitted last week (450cc from Astra VXR). The Megasquirt was great, the new injectors are almost exactly twice the flow rate of the old ones, so I just halved the required fuel setting and she drives great! Now the Trabant is of the drive I could bring the TVR round and start taking it apart. I pretty much stripped all of the cooling system and took the bonnet off for better access. The biggest worry was that the manifold welding had warped the pipework but I am pleased to report it still fits! With the turbo mocked up in place the plan for the next couple of weeks is get the wastegate mounted, sort out the oil and coolant lines and get the intercooler in and all the pipework sorted. A modified cross member will also need to be made up at the same time. Once that is all good it will come out again for a final clean up / paint / polish and to get the internal wastegate of the turbo welded up. I have already found an issue with my original plan in that to get any pipework to the turbo inlet is going to be far too restrictive, so I am having to compromise and fit a filter directly to the turbo.

The intercooler pipework is now ordered as well as the fittings and hose for the MAP sensor / boost gauge.
I have also enquired to get a posh new dash with 2 extra holes for the boost and AFR gauges. Hopefully today I will get a chance to fit the intercooler.

What a great, unusual project - as has been said before there are few with the courage to mod a TVR!

Sump removed and cleaned before fitting the turbo oil return fitting. I have a 90 degree barbed fitting and 10an hose on order as the one that came with the kit is too short. The vacuum advance port was also removed, drilled and tapped to be bunged with an m3 bolt.

So progress is continuing as parts are finally starting to turn up again. Pictures soon. To simplify pipework and just because I can, the current plan is for a 'subtle' bonnet exit screamer pipe The original idea was to stick it under the car but there is no easy route. It could look badass or totally naff but its only fibreglass at the end of the day. Opinions on a postcard please before I start chopping

New oil pressure sender Oil return sorted, just need another 90 degree fitting for the turbo side. Its a long run but the turbo sits about 5" higher than the sump fitting so hopefully it should drain ok. Oil feed sorted, hose is way to long though so will pop to the local hydraulics place to try and get it shortened.

And to finish the day I cleaned and refitted the washer bottle, and relocated the horn. Happy now that everything in the front of the car is sorted Next up is research for the turbo water cooling. Annoyingly I don't know what thread size they are but should be something standard. Need to decide where to take off from the cooling system too. One vote so far for bonnet screamer then

I'll second that vote, but if possible stick it nearer the passenger side in case the turbo oil seals fall to bits, covering the windscreen in oil (like the scene in the Battle of Britain!) Very unlikely though.

Love this car and what you're doing with it. I too would rather the bonnet wasn't cut if at all possible. Whatever, this should be a real beast once its done. Keep us the great work mate.

Have you considered wrapping the manifolds? Allot of latent heat there and allot of energy lost... I have thought about it but on the TVR forums people have reported on cracked manifolds from wrapping. It is very tempting though as the engine bay does get very hot! Maybe I should wrap my new y-piece too depending on how neat the welding is as abused pointed out, majority of motive force in the exhaust turbine is actually heat (rather than traditional thinking of wind blowing some sails round) having a remote turbo like your setup means allot of the energy is lost through the manifold before it gets to the turbine. in actual fact NOT wrapping the manifolds might end up running more boost for the same target bhp (plus the lag) and compounding the egt issue
