You have my sympathy.. Ebay is weighted far too much in favour of the buyer now, part of the reason i largely stopped selling on there. The inability to leave a buyer neg feedback started the rot and it's got worse since. There are people on there who more or less make a living out of getting stuff for free by saying they have never received it and so on. Ebay aren't bothered about small and private sellers losing out, they just want the big players who turnover enough stuff to accept a total loss on a percentage of their stock.
It's sad,i used to sell many hundreds of vintage watches all over the world and virtually never had any issues a few years ago but they tend to be good quality buyers for that sort of thing. As soon as i touched more populist things like mobiles problems started.Several times i lost the goods and the money.
Unless they have changed things again Ebay will refund them as soon as they enter a tracking number for the return online and then chase you for the money.

Hi, Yes, Ebay want to be a go to retail site like Amazon. That's why their buyer protection policy is there. They are not interested in the small auction sales.

My mate just avoided an eBay scam on an item he was selling. He found a customer services number in this country on the bottom of the page. The guy he spoke to removed his negative feedback and refunded his final listing fee.
I'd try to find the English number if I were you!

So the clippers have come back, dirty and obviously used but working! But now eBay will refund the buyers money and stick us for the return postage. Think I might be phoning them again tomorrow.

Try these numbers for ebay "eBay can also be contacted on normal landline 0208 080 2105 and free numbers 0800 358 3229 and 0800 358 6551"
They've probably used them until they were blunt then looked at how much it costs to get the blades sharpened....

Thanks for 0800 numbers. Might be that they used them but the horse didn't like them, they are noisy, anyway they're used but not faulty. or it's cheaper to scam somebody than hire a set.

0800 number works thanks.
So you have to close the case and then appeal it. Which I guess means the buyer gets their money back before we can appeal, that's a great system - not!
I can see us ending up ~£30 down (postage) and needing to resell the clippers, probably not worth the hassle of fighting eBay but it's the principle of it.

If you have the pics from the original listing showing a clean, ready to use pair of clippers... take pics of the item being removed from the packaging (try to include the tracking number in the pics) and the state they were in when received back.
eBay states that items need to be in the same condition they were received when being returned...
Speak to eBay and explain this and offer to send them the pics so they can see it for themselves!
Oh and makes sure they refund you the final value fees etc.

You've still got the buyer's money? How will they get that from you?
If you feel you should refund something seeing as you have the clippers back, do you have the option of a partial refund so you don't lose out?

You've still got the buyer's money? How will they get that from you? If you feel you should refund something seeing as you have the clippers back, do you have the option of a partial refund so you don't lose out? eBay refund the money and then take it from the seller, either directly if it's PayPal (or ask for reimbursement if there are no funds). I suppose we could refuse to pay eBay but they'd probably go through debt collectors and the sum would just get bigger and would be bad for credit rating etc. In terms of partial refund I'd be happy to do that but it has to go through the eBay appeal process, and what's the likely hood of either eBay or the buyer agreeing (about as likely as it being a white Christmas I'd say). Having spoken (ranted) to eBay twice now I have zero faith in their so called dispute processes.

I would look into what Ebay would do Personally i don't like threatening letters but if they are bluff some people can ignore them (thinking about those letters people get from DVLA re fines for SORN etc) Ultimately i presume they would have to take you court? I dunno Merry Christmas

So needless to say eBay sort of found in the buyers favour, we need to refund their money (inc postage to them) but they have to pay to return the item. Meanwhile they have been added to a list of bad buyers on an appropriate forum and we won't use eBay to sell any high value items again.
Sad reflection on life that people think they can take advantage like this and I guess sellers are being discriminated against on eBay because of sellers scamming in the past and present. But given what a lot of people are coping with at the moment, i.e. floods, this is small beer.
Now to photograph and list the Scaletrix I want to sell.
Happy New Year.
